I have the same problem, but pressing the WLAN button does not turn the WiFi on. It seems to be permanently off. Is there any way to get around pressing this button?

I've been having the same problem here at work (Microsoft) with 15 machines in my lab and I just figured it out after wasting two frustrating hours trying out different drivers. If you press F10 to boot it into the BIOS at start-up and then arrow over to the Advanced tab, there is a place where you can enable the WLAN (F5/F6). Hit F10 to save and the WiFi key should light up as Windows is loading. If it doesn't, try pressing it and it should.

YESSSSSSS!

Is your WLAN turned on? It's usually a switch or button somewhere on the machine with the WiFi icon around it. Kind of like this:

No Wi-Fi no light on button

If the button or on/off switch that is provided for the WiFi (may have a line with three curved lines coming off of it as a symbol for the button) is toggled or enabled and the wifi won't turn on, then there is a good chance that the driver for the wifi isn't loaded.

You can tell if the driver is missing by opening the Control Panel, opening System, opening Device Manager and looking for a Network Adapter category. Expand the Network Adapter category by clicking the plus sign and look for a WiFi adapter in there. If it has a yellow exclamation point ! on it then there is a problem with the network card and it needs to be reinstalled. If there isn't a WiFi or Wireless Network adapter in there, chances are it is found under a category called "Other Devices" and it still needs to be reinstalled.

To install it, you will probably have to delete the device out of the device manager (highlight it and press the delete key on the keyboard) and then plug your laptop into wired network connection (usually your router or internet service modem will have a network port that you can plug into directly with an ethernet cable). You'll go to the manufacturer's website, click on support and search for drivers for your laptop. Be sure to go to the network section and download and install the network driver for your system.

HP Pavilion dv9205us wifi issues

Is your version of Windows 7 32 or 64bit? Open the Network and Sharing Center, select Change Adapter settings, is the wireless adapter listed? Is the Wireless Adapter in the Device Manager under Network Adapters? Have you done ALL your Windows and HP updates? Usually Windows 7 will apply the generic driver to the devices. Do you see any UNKNOWN DEVICES in Device Manager? You can find drivers here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3340198 Some times you can use Vista drivers by changing compatibility. Post your findings and which version, 32 or 64 bit.

Can't connect to internet wirelessly

vista
which G50 there., are many,

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/identify?q=HP+G50&tool=s-002#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930O2
the stock lap top drivers cost nothing. at,
hp.com has them for free.
see the bottom of the lap top see the service tag
only that tells you what you have ,easy.
(the BIOS info page too)

first off to use wifi
the HP.com wifi driver needs to be installed
then you need a wifi router
got one? (assume at home , you said wired,so...)
then your home wifi , has a broadcast name
(some use there dogs name, or funny names)
lets say its FIDO123
you must program your router to a name you know.
or ask your service provider. this,'

the with Vista running, click the wifi logo the tray
see it scan you neighborhood, just like your cell phone wifi .does.'
You see fido123, then click that and say connect.
connecting to any of 10 or more neighbor wifi is a waste of effort.
guess what, you need to knowy your FIDO123 pass word.
this is how most wifi works at home
running open ad hock wifi at home is crazy, risk.
why not use wired,
it;s way faster, use 100[ cable. for more freedom.

my tag, yours will show. G50-nnnnnnnnnn
nnnnnn is what is,of the 30 different models.
serv-tag-low5jsjaj20nhz1e11m4ltbk-4-0.jpg here i tossed the one and 30 coin ,,, yah a wild guess.
lands on g50-123

now that problem
there are 4 wifi chips used
on this one laptop
ATHEROS
OR
BOARDCOM
Intel PRO/Wireless

YOU NEED TO LEARN WHAT YOU HAVE FIRST

i have specials software that scan the PC
and finds what chips are there.
im not teaching that. ever.
what you can do ,is down load all 4
then run them
the one that does not error out is good
or
go to control panel then device manager
if its working or 1/2 working they name is there in network tree item.
thats it.

my guess is its working
but you dont know your SSID name, nor the password.

Cannot turn on wifi on T400. Intel 5100 card

Is the "broadcast-tower" light on (the leftmost icon on the lite-bar below the screen)? Have you got an available/working WiFi router? Have you been able to choose a network to connect to? My T400 works fine when all the above are enabled..

No wifi after re-load of xp system software

Did you reinstall the drivers for the device? Check the Device Manager for your system and see if Windows sees the wireless device. If you have a red X, the device is disabled; if you have either an unknown device or the wireless device with a yellow dot with a black exclamation point, then either the driver is not installed, or the driver is improperly installed.

Wireless connection no longer works after vista upgrade

HP uses "branded" wireless modules, which means it's got to be HP or it doesn't get to play.
Does device manager see the wireless device? I've had similar situations with the 8000s. Always the driver or the wireless utility was the problem. Try letting windows manage the device, or if you already are, disable that and use the devices utiliy to manage it.
BTW, most systems consider BT as wireless.
Good luck, hope that helps
