It sounds from your description that the phone has a fault at the socket. Are you able to borrow or buy another battery to see if that cures the fault, and then you can be sure it is at the phone. If at the phone, you will need to see a service agent for the phone.

you must have disabled that option, go to settings select power and there will be an option ie. "when device is turned on" deselect it.

you should try to have it opened and inspected for mostly water damage. all those indicate to a fault motherboard. some components are shorting and causing the battery drainage.
this will require disassembling phone and be sure, this is a hardware problem not software.

HTC Phones are known for short battery life if you are using it only expect 2-4 hours
If you are not using it at all and have turned off wifi 3g the screen music and background apps and don't make any calls/txts expect as many as 18 hours.
