Programming Quasar VHQ940 for DTV converter box

I have the Best Buy Insignia converter box. I haven't found a setting in the channel setup that sees all the channels that the converter box is supplying. How do I program the vcr to auto set and get the channels, or how can I manually set the channels from the converter box? I went from DTV converter box out to vcr in, vcr out to tc ant 1 in.
thanks!

On Sundays while at church, I like to tape Fox news for 1 hour, then change to ABC for George Stephanopoulos, then change to NBC to catch the last half hour of Meet the Press. With the converter box, will I not be able to switch and tape channels while away? Will I only be able to tape the Fox segment? This alone should give Democrats reason to delay the switch until better converter boxes are developed. Also my converter box turns off after 4 hours if not in use. How can I tape something when away all day? Thanks

I assume you're trying to record from the DTV box. You will have to set the DTV box to play through channel 3 then tell the VCR to record channel 3. So basically the VCR always THINKS it's recording channel 3, but in reality it's recording whatever channel the DTV box is on. You will be unable to used timed recording unless you leave the box on whatever channel it is you're wanting to tape.

I own an Insignia flat screen tv, NS-LCD27, & I was given the Insignia converter box, NS-DXA1; how do I program tv remote for the box? Thanks, frances b.

The digital to analog converters did not exist when the TV was built and the remote programmed. Thus you will have more luck programming the converter box's remote to control the TV. (At least with my converter box, the included remote could only turn on and off the TV. It would only change channels on the converter.)

Most universal remotes only have codes for devices released 6 months or more before the TV was programmed. So a new universal remote will probably control both the TV and the converter box. (Program the converter box using a code for LG or Zenith set top boxes if Insignia isn't listed. LG makes Insignia video products for Best Buy.) The remotes that are programmable by a USB connection to a computer are the fastest to set up.

A replacement remote for your TV is available here: http://www.mcmelectronics.com/partfinder.aspx?brand=&mdl=NS-LCD27&mode=part . An exact replacement remote for the converter box can be purchased at: http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&uuid=13055197980390&smodel=NSDXA1&brand_pn=INSIGNIA_NSDXA1 . The manual for the converter box (as a PDF) is here: http://cbsdallas.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/insignia-ns-dxa1-manual.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Why can't I tune in new channels from set top box through vcr?

Sounds like you are trying to receive the new Over The Air OTA, digital ATSC signals on a VCR that can only receive analog NTSC, which are not sent by any but low-power channels. Did you miss the change over last April, postponed from Feb, and featured on every TV channel when you could have obtained 1 or 2 $40 coupons toward ATSC-to-NTSC converter boxes. Try www.dtv.gov for more info, IIRC.
If you are speaking of cable TV then see your company. These may be digital Quadrature Amplitude Modulation QAM signals that only certain TVs can decode provided they are not encrypted. Locals are never encrypted. This is separate from the ATSC conversion.

Tried the RF Out setting and now Ican't reset it or even get the STB to respond to set up or anything.

If you changed the RF out channel setting on the DTV converter and now can't see the output of the converter try changing the channel on the TV set. THe DTV converter boxes are designed to output either RF channel 3 or RF channel 4. If you were on channel 3 and changed the converter output to channel 4, you will have to change the TV channel to channel 4 to see it again.

Hope this helps.

Trouble programming Universal Remote to a DTV Converter Box...

Not a complete solution, but, around the last page (pg. 14) of your converter box manual there are codes listed for universal remotes. I happen to have a Philips remote that is listed. My code to control my dtv box is 0354. It appears that they have all codes listed for all Radioshack model universal remotes. I would suggest getting a Radioshack remote for Your "Digital Stream" (Radioshack) dtv box...

Is a booster needed for the tb100mw9 dtv converter box?

Best solution would be to use an outdoor antenna with an amplifier(booster)--but in some areas you may get by with an amplified set top antenna. Just all depends on your location..

In perspective, I have an outdoor UHF dish and 10 foot VHF antennas with an amplifier and still i get only fair reception on outlying digital stations that normally come in clear on analog.

Also--this converter box must complete the autoscan with an antenna attached, or else you'll receive NOTHING; not even by manually selecting a known digital channel.

This #@!! box automatically locks out what it considers to be unused or weak channels. It makes the decisions and you're left with 'no signal' messages and nothing to do but try a rescan.....and you cannot add channels to any it has already found.

DTV converter box

Buy a hdtv antenna to autoscan program channels which should bring in a lot more then reconnect with the older antenna afterwards and if you're still not getting all the channels then each source needs a strong hdtv antenna that can be adjusted manually.

DTV Converter hookup

Is it possible to record TV programming on a VCR when using a DTV converter? h1 = document.getElementById("title").getElementsByTagName("h1")[0];h1.innerHTML = widont(h1.innerHTML); Hi,

I had the same problem and found this answer that worked for me. Hope this does the trick for you.

Simple stated, your VCR must be set to channel 3 also. Check it out.

woody

  1. You must have the VCR tuned to record on channel 3.
  2. You must have the VCR connected to output signal of the DTV converter box. In other words, the converter box must be connected between the antenna and the VCR. So, the likely configuration you would use with a coaxial cable is antenna to DTV converter to VCR to TV.
  3. You must tune the DTV converter to the channel you want to record prior to recording. The VCR won't be able to change channels on the DTV converter.
  4. You will be able to use the timed record function on the VCR but you must adhere to steps 1-3.
If this sounds freakishly familiar to recording on a digital cable or satellite set-top box, you are right. It is exactly like recording a signal from a digital cable box or satellite receiver. While it may be inconvenient to perform the steps above, at least the option still exists to record on a VCR while using a DTV converter box.
Disadvantage of DTV Converter: You will lose the ability to watch one program and record another with the DTV converter. Sorry for the bad news.
The reason is the tuner. The VCR tuner is useless with digital except for recognizing channel 3. The digital converter is a single tuner item so it only receives one station at a time.
