Your unit has a defective LCD panel. If the unit is not under warranty, the LCD panel itself will cost you about as much as the tv. Best solution is to replace the tv with a new one and always purchase an extended warranty.

My Panasonic plasma TV has suddenly developed a one pixel thick horizontal black line across the screen. It is not there when the TV is switched off.

it'll not be there when tv off because dead pixels do only show when back light of screen comes on, anyway if you still have a warranty then ask for them to check it out as it sounds like you need a new screen there mate

Sometimes my lg 42 television has 2 thin blue & one red line from top to bottom of screen why

If the line of pixels is on the edges of your TV screen, then it is usually related to the signal feed to the TV and not the fault of the TV.
You can see thissemi-common issue with some TV antenna, Cable, and Satellite signals fed to the TV.
This will also happen if you are running a signal from one device through another device and then to the TV.
Example: Blu-Ray signal goes to the A/V amp and then over to the TV.
If the line of pixels is well away from the edge of the screen and is constant for all inputs (HDMI, Component, AVI) then this issue is the fault of at least one of the image drive boards. To trouble shoot this issue would require some TV repair tools and some knowledge of electronics.
I hope this information has helped you.
Good Luck.

I'm house and pet sitting at a friends' house who have a large screen Vizio TV and DirecTV. Right now, the TV is set on HDMI, but there's a floating message on a black screen: ''No Signal!'' This...

You need to make sure that is has enough signal, if you have poor signal, you will get pixels(as oppesed to snowy picture on CRT televisions) make sure all plugs are plugged in correct, and try diff inputs from DirecTV to the Tv to ensure its not the HDMI input thats faulty. Good Luck.

NO TV PICTURE

The best way is to contact your service provider and ask them to trouble shoot guide you, there should be a way to reset or diagnose the receiver or if you prefer go back to the place you bought it and ask for a replacement, You should still have the manufacturer's warranty, check that as well.
