Red is out of convergence

The red line is offset and cannot manually move it using the remote. Using touch focus button give touch focus error. REpair man says it going to cost $560 to repair. He say's the Digital Convergence module needs to be replace and there is no easy way to replace it. red touch focus error. how do I fix it? We are gettin a touch focus error and when we try to change convergance, red is the only one out of line and we can move it left to right but NOT up and down. The problem is much worse on the right side of the screen then the left. Any ideas on things to try or cost of repair or part? Thanks for your help. Michele Mehalovich [email protected]

Same issue, however the red will not go side to side. Searching for info prior to calling and asking about service. If I get any other information I will let you know.

These sets use STK392-110 voltage amplifiers in the convergence circuit. Chances are good that these are causing your problem. It is best to upgrade these to STK392-150. There may also be some low tolerance resistors that have gone off value. I do not suggest, however, that you do this work yourself unless you have some electronics training. Find yourself a good technician that does component level repair and not board level. The labor will be higher, but the parts will be significantly lower.

You can get repair parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com for this model. Convergence problems are fairly common.

"touch focus error" appears when the test is completed. There is a double effect showing on the pictures and the words. What can be done to fix this?

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

Convergence -manual

Replace the convergence amps and test and replace any or all of the 2.2ohm resistors in the yoke return path out in front of the amps. This unit takes two STK392-110 Sanyo originals, DO NOT GET CHINESE KNOCK-OFFS... Buy them from Acme sales out of Florida and you can be assured they're originals.

Red is out of convergence

I would stay away from that repair man. That model has just one Convergence IC number STK393-110 and it takes about 45 minutes from start to finish to remove the old IC and install the new one. You can get the replacement IC at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself for less than 30.00. Heres the link. You need just 1 STK393-110 Convergence IC they have free shipping as well.
