Hello kristine,
If you wish to de-activate your Facebook account, in the top right of the page, once you've logged in, is the account menu, scroll down to account settings and click it. Now at the bottom right of the options available such as name, password, email, and so on is a "deactivate" button. Select it and it will ask you for a reason why you wish to do that, and then just click "confirm" and you're done! If you wish to re-activate it at any time you can simply log back in, and it starts everything back up.
