Woodchuck told someone that the flakes coming out of their ice could be the ice mold coming apart. That's the problem I have. Pieces of that mold are flaking off. Do I have to replace that part? What is it called the ice cube mold? Thanks for your help!

Replace the complete ice maker . Less hassle and maybe $ 125. total . Only 2 or 3 screws hold the ice maker in place . If you have a side by side , buy the kit for your model . Usually kits are less expensive than buying the ice maker by itself , even though you only use the ice maker out of the kit .

Coating on maytag ice maker mold peeling & flaking

In this case you have to replace the entire ice maker since the mold section is not sold separately. If you shop carefully you can get the entire shebang for about 40 bucks on ebay.

Our Whirlpool Refrig GD25DFXFW02 is working fine our problem is the ice maker , the cubes contain white flakes, is there a coating on the ice maker that could be chipping off> We have changed the filter...

The inside coating has come off the inside of the ice maker . The white " flakes " is calcium deposits , sticking to the exposed cast metal , inside the ice maker , and sticking to the cubes , after water freezing in the mold . You need to replace the ice maker .

My whirlpool ice maker makes ice but it builds an ice dam and ice cicles on the back of the unit.

there might be a crack in the mold of the icemaker. you can unplug the fridge and take out the icemaker. there should be three 1/4" screws holding it in place. visually inspect the icemaker mold the see if its cracked or flaking. if it is, the icemaker needs replacing. hope this helps.

My ice maker produces ice with white flakes in it, and slowly.

If you also get the flakes with the water from the water dispenser it could be the water chiller reservoir behind the crisper in the fridge. If it's just the ice maker the non stick surface in the ice mold may be coming loose.

Amana side by side

Undissolved minerals can appear when ice cubes are added to chilled drinking water. Freezing tap water causes dissolved minerals to solidify and scatter, giving a cloudy appearance. When ice cubes melt, any undissolved minerals settle to the bottom. These mineral compounds in our drinking water are naturally occurring and safe.
Sometimes we see black particles which can be the non-stick surface of the ice mold flaking off.

Water flows out of the back of the ice tray

Hi
You need to check and make sure the fill tube is pointing down into the watercup. A clip would hold it down. Then if thats ok do you have flakes in the ice? If yes then replace the icemaker. If no then you need to check the mold to see if the teflon is peeling off the mold.

Ice Maker has some black stuff in water

check the ice-maker itself, it has a teflon coating (like a frying pan) that sometimes flakes off leaving little black flakes in the ice. if this is the case you have to change the ice-maker.
