The Nintendo DS only supports certain types of Wireless Security, the Nintendo site specifies what version DS supports what versions of Wifi Security

An SSID is the name of your wireless network, so it's what you see when you try to connect to a wireless network at your home

to put in Wifi manually you have to put in the SSID, Wireless password, and depending on if your router is set up as manual or automatic, you may have to put in your IP Address and Subnet mask and finally you need to put in a primary DNS server, your primary DNS server IP Address is the IP Address of your router.

I have play station 3 how should it show up when checking should it be under a WEP Key I do not understand how all this works I just want to make sure everything is done right so I don't have

The PS3 has 2 different ways it can connect. The first, and most reccomended, is by a ethernet cord to your router directly. The second, is by wifi. When you connect wifi, you go to network settings, it will suggest wired but you can continue with wifi connection, then select "wireless". It will ask you to auto scan, or manually put in the SSID. Select "Auto" then when your router info shows up, it will ask for the security info (WEP) this is where you enter the security code that you use for all of your devices that use the wireless connection. If the key is correct, it will ask you to test your connection. Everything is automatic from there.

I don't know my WEP key it doesn't have anything on my wifi box that says WEP key

To connect to your wireless router, the router needs itswireless settings configured ie SSID, WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryption key, also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

How to connect new laptop to router

Hello
In order to set up the wireless client, you will need to know the service set identifier (SSID), the Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key and the channel and mode.
Boot up the laptop and plug in the WiFi card. This will not be necessary if your laptop has an integrated WiFi card.
Install any drivers needed to use the WiFi card. Insert the disc that came with the WiFi card and follow the on-screen installation process. Most discs will trigger a new hardware wizard that makes installation extremely simple.
Double-click on the "WiFi Connection" icon. It can be found in the system tray at the bottom of the laptop screen.
Click on "Properties."
Select the "Wireless Networks" tab.
Use the "Add" button at the bottom of the dialog if your WiFi network isn't in the "Available Networks" section.
Click on "Configure" when you see your network's SSID in the "Available Networks."
Enter your network's SSID and WEP key.
Click on "Start," then choose "Connect To" and "Wireless Network Connection." Your computer should now be able to access the WiFi network. If the WiFi network is connected to the Internet, it should also be able to connect to the Internet.
Hope it helps, if so do rate the solution
Good luck

Whats an ssid and a wep key

SSID is the actual name of your device. You can locate it either on the device itself or in the box your device comes in. My wifi (portable hotspot from sprint) is Overdrive-75E for example. A WEP key is the password needed for you to connect (a secure connection). You can usually find it also on the device itself or in the box it came in.

How do I put my signal private

Go to security setting and generate a WAP/WEP key.
Look in your manual, it shows you step by step.
You login to router with a browser, and then simply go to security section, generate the key, save in notepad, save all setting in router, reboot router, Then attempt to login to the WiFi SSID, and it will ask you for effectively a Password, WEP?WAP Key, simply copy paste that number you saved in notepad, and you will now be able to connect.

Need my wireless SSID Name & Network key

The SSID is simply the name of the WiFi Network, the Network Key or WEP/WAP Key, is generated when you first setup a WiFi point, For the first time you must copy this key to a document & use it when you try to first login, to the WiFi network. So the only place that information can be found is in the WiFi's setup.

First Check the following

1) Wireless Switch of the Laptop is off (Wifi is Off)
it is located somewhere on the edge of the laptops
or Fn+F2 might turn the switch ON and OFF
2) The setting required to configure wireless connection

Check the following steps

Windows XP
1. Click on the Start Menu, and click on Control Panel.
2. Find and double-click “Network Connections” to open up the list of connections that your 3. computer uses to connect to the internet.
4. Right click “Wireless Network Connection” and select “Properties”.

7. Click “Add” to add a wireless profile.
* Enter in the Network name (SSID). (It was your desired SSID from Step 6 ).
* Uncheck the box “The key is provided for me automatically”.
* Put in the “Key 1” code from Step 7 into “Network key” and “Confirm network key”.
* Push “OK”
# Open Internet Explorer (with the computer connected to the Router)
# Enter 192.168.1.1 into the Address Bar, push Enter
# Leave the User Name field blank
# Under the password field enter “admin”
# Click “OK”

# Click “Wireless”
# Click “Basic Wireless Settings”
# Enter a desired name into the “Wireless Network Name (SSID)” field
# Write down your Wireless Network SSID, it will be used for later.
# Click “Save Settings”

For WEP:

* Click “Wireless”
* Click “Wireless Security”
* Select “WEP” in the “Security Mode” field
* Bubble “1” under the “Default Transmit Key” field
* Select “128 bits 26 hex digits”
* Enter a desired passphrase into the “Passphrase” field
* Click “Generate”
* Carefully write down the code generated in the “Key 1” field on paper, and store it in a safe place. THIS IS YOUR WEP KEY, it will be needed later on.

What is a ssid and a wep key. I am dumb.

Hi,
SSID is the wireless networks name you want to access.

WEP is a special hexadecimal key to secure your network means if you want to connect a wireless network you will have to put this key.
It will be provided by the admin

Cant get wifi on my ds even with WEP key

The DS doesn't have the best WiFi signal.

Make sure you are close to your router for one.

Also check the WEP key as it may say the AP (access point) isn't there if the WEP is wrong.

Also some routers won't connect properly to the DS unless the IP,Gateway, and DNS are set manually.

If you choose to set the AP info manualy then you need to find the you AP's IP address.
Commonly this would be 192.168.1.1 however it varies from one brand to another or may be changed manualy.
Try these settins with the corrected IP adress number as the gateway.

IP Adress 192.168.1.152 (this is you'r DS IP adress. The 3rd digit should be the same as you gatway's 3rd digit. The fourth digit can be any number that isn't used on your network.

Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.1.1

DNS Pri 192.168.1.1
DNS Sec 192.168.1.0
(Usually I set the Gateway and DNS numbers the same and it usually works. The Gateway is the IP address of your wifi router.)

If this fails and all numbers are correct, then it may be that the WiFi router will not work with the DS as some brands simply refuse to work with it for unkown reasons.

Anohter solution is to get a WiFi USB dongle and connect to that.
