Your computer cannot read your copy of Windows from your 'C:' disk-drive.
You need to purchase a replacement disk-drive, and re-install Windows onto the new disk-drive.
I hope that you have a good backup of all your files!

Most likely the hard drive is failing, run diagnostics on the hard drive if you have a resource CD. Or you can download them from support.dell.com

"A disk read error occurred. Please click ctr +

You have as it states, a disc read error which means you have errors on the hard drive.
As soon as you get into your system run CHKDSK/F, that will attempt to restore the damaged files.
Make backups and look for a replacement hard drive.
Hope that helps.

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.

Start up problem

hi steve,

can you get into the BIOS?
if so, would u make sure the boot orders are following:
1st. boot from hard drive,
2nd, cd rom
3rd, floppy,
4th, network adaptor?

save changes and try restart.
i hope you do have OS installed.
if not change 2nd part to 1st, and 1st to 2nd.

i have gotten the same error with my laptop. my computer was trying to load window from network, through network adapter.

hope this information helps.
