It works sometimes but mostly never. The power is on and the screen is blank.

For anyone who still has this issue including above morris_gray,
I've encountered this myself with my first generation M-Audio Axiom 25 USB MIDI Controller plugged into a MacBook using GarageBand (G2 apparently has identical malfunction).
It should be noted that I never installed any type of software for the device, that came with the device. I simply wanted a controller for GarageBand, and I will also note that it has worked flawlessly for about 4 years on this setup, until about a week ago...

I'll provide what information I have gathered about the blank LCD screen issue as well as the controller simply not functioning correctly as listed below:
The most common way people test/fix this is to "hard reset":
- turn controller off (assuming you've kept the usb cable connected to your computer)
- hold down both the + and - buttons directly below the lcd, and simply turn the power on. Some numbers should appear on the lcd soon after the reboot and you are okay to release said buttons...
I've read testimonials, watched videos of people doing this and successfully getting their device back in action, though the reset will default anything you have saved for the device.

Sadly, this did not work on mine. I've tried several different cables- in several different usb ports- on several different computers (as suggested by M-Audio on their support page. I still get a lit up but blank lcd. I've even tried to still use it but only some awful noises come out and nearly every function just makes the thing freak out and it becomes silent/unusable/useless.
M-Audio suggests sending it back to them for fixing at this point.
Because I've had my Axiom 25 Gen. 1 for so long and I have never installed anything what so ever that came in the box, and have little faith that M-Audio will replace mine, I will most likely try to take it apart and mess around with the electronics inside as it's just a big paperweight now.
I did read that in the Gen. 1's the blank lcd could be a result of a chip gone wrong, so to speak... Gen. 2's had some type of "grounding" issue that resulted in the blank lcd and such.
I hope this helps anyone, if I stumble upon a way to fix this through my own curiosity I will inform the masses...
I'll be on the hunt for a new controller most likely and it probably wont be an M-Audio...not that I'm upset with the product, it lasted me quite a while and I've made a lot of solid songs/music with it, but rather I feel the need for something different and maybe a little more sturdy that can actually be a synthesizer on its own, not just a controller.

PSR e423. Why does it have a blank screen and no sound?

Blank screen and no sound, can occur because of damage to the power supply circuit in the PSR-E423.
Circuit power supply is still working but the voltage is not sufficient. This is indicated by a lit LCD screen but does not appear any character, and the sound did not exist. It is a matter of hardwares, so it can not be reset by software.
Should be fixed to the experts.
Do you use the original adapter? Also check the voltage.
Maybe, it is not known why, a voltage adapter has been dropped.

I have barely used my BR-900. I love it, but now the display screen only works occasionally. All writing on the screen will actually disappear while I am performing a function. Sometimes turning the...

I hate to say it, Sandra, but that problem usually doesn't involve an easy/cheap fix. I run a 1200 here, so I know from whence you speak. If this is an "under warranty unit", I'd box it up and swap it out.

BUT, if not, and you're any good at dis-assembly/re-assembly or know someone who is, I HAVE fixed problems like this with the "pressure" method. It worked on a Chevy digital dash that was blanking out on me and a couple music keyboards.

Power it down and unplug the power cord, dis-assemble it to the point you can see the board that feeds the display. Very carefully plug the power cord back in and power it up. While avoiding touching any of the boards or connections with your bare hands/fingers, use a pencil eraser and lightly apply pressure to different spots on that board until (maybe) the display lights - indicating a loose connection; probably a bad solder joint in that area. Trying to repair it would probably fry it, unless you're an ace solderer.

Now, the trick is to remember that spot, use a piece of non-conductive material, like a small wad of electrical tape big enough that it would apply a similar constant pressure to it at that point once it's re-assembled. I know - sounds bizarre, but I've made it work where soldering was impossible without a professional teardown.

Good luck,

Only blue light with blank display on power on

Dear Joseph,

I had similar problem with my DGX620. In my case the display sometimes got blue and sometimes worked fine. The cause was a bad contact of the display flat cable.
I opened the DGX620 and then I cut a small piece of plastic film (35mm negative) with exactly the same width of the flat, disconnect the flat cable and then reconnected it using the film on the other side (non contact side) to increase the pressure and guarantee a good contact. No more problems from nov-2012 till now.

Good luck !

I can`t load the OS in my KORG PA 80. No way to make it work. I think than the problem is the mother board.

Have you tried it with batteries? Are you sure the power supply is working correctly? It should not need the OS to operate as a keyboard disconnected from the computer.

The cable connection is just a MIDI cable that uses opto-isolators so the 2 items are electrically isolated from each other. The software driver for the Korg should load without problem. The Korg program itself may be looking for inputs that are not there when the keyboard is off and the program itself reaches a stop command.

If the PA80 will not work on just the power supply- the power supply can be the fault- it has an internal fuse. Finding a similar supply with the same coaxial plug wired the same polarity is the way to test it if the battery option is not available.

The display on my Technics KN1200 keyboards is blank -I have not used it for some time but when I tried it Yesterday the display is blank -All the other Functions works well. please help Thanks Fritz

Check if there is a contrast setting knob or function. Often the contrast setting gets clobbered and then the display will be blank... worst thing if it is internal setting and you can't see the screen to change it... In that case do a factory reset on the unit. Usually this is holding down multiple buttons when turning power on.

Backlight on my Roland D50 does not show up when powered up.All that happens is that the screen changes from black to a very feint yellowy green and there is no sound at all from the synth .... any ideas?...

This sounds like you have a failure in the power supply. This could be due to a bad solder joint or a failed component. The part cost should be minimal.

The backlight sounds like it is not getting the full voltage. The electronics mostly will run on 5 volts DC. Below about 4.75 volts things just won't work.
