Depends on the make/model of your machine. Most machines do have a pressure adjustment for the presser foot. Sometimes it is explained in the owner's manual.

Newer machines have a dial somewhere. Older machines will have a screw at the very top of the presser foot bar (sometimes under the top cover). Turning the screw right will increase the pressure, left will release it. Other machines have a plunger type projection on the top left of the machine. Pushing the plunger down will increase the presser foot pressure. To release the plunger, press down on the ring that encircles the plunger.

On some machines, you can lighten the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric. (Some machines do not have this capability.) But, you don't want to adjust the height of the presser foot.

If the fabric is pushing in front of the presser foot as you are sewing, you might want to try using a walking foot, a teflon foot, or a roller foot.

The inner pin pushes down (in various degrees), the further it is pushed down, the more pressure the presser foot applies. To release the inner pin, press down on the outer ring of the pin. Some machines have a dial that can raise or lower the pressure.

Some machines have a screw located at the top of the presser foot bar that can be tightened or loosened. (Unfortunately, manufacturers usually did not include this information in the user's manual.)

Even older machines sometimes have a spring-loaded push-button on the top left of the machine. When pushed in, it collapses the spring that applies less or more pressure to the presser foot. The inner button actually applies the pressure in "degrees" which is regulated by how far the button is pushed in. To release this pressure button, press on the outside ring to release the spring. (Incidentally, it is a good practice to release this spring when you are finished sewing. Storing it with the spring compressed may eventually cause the spring to lose its effectiveness.)

You may also check the presser foot pressure on your machine. This regulates the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric and the feed dogs. If the pressure is too strong, it will tend to push the upper layers of fabric, creating a bubble look. If the pressure is too loose, there is not enough pressure for the feed dogs to physically pull entire quilt sandwich under the presser foot.
(The pressure is adjustable depending on the types of fabric and thicknesses being sewn.)

Are you saying the presser foot has very light pressure on the fabric? If so, most machines have the ability to increase the pressure the presser foot applies to fabric and feed dogs. It depends on your machine's make & model where & how that pressure is adjusted. Older machines usually have a large skrew or knob at the top of the needle bar that tightens down on a big spring, thus the tighter spring increases the pressure. Newer machines sometimes have a dial usually located on the top left or side of the machine head. (Consult your owner's manual.)

We have a sewing machine that was manufactured by Janome. It is a New Home Deluxe Model. It has very little travel on the pressure foot itself versus other sewing machines. I have learned just by using this machine.... If you need to get the foot up high...all you have to do is reach through and grab the pressure foot and while picking it up(not the lever but the foot itself) turn it clockwise just a touch and it will stay up plenty far enough to get larger or thicker material under it to sew. I dodn't know your model really well but it will be one of the following:
a clip on foot that you just pull down on to remove,
a clip on foot with a button at the back of the pressure foot holder - press the button to release the foot
a clip on foot with a little lever at the back of the pressure foot holder - lift the lever to release the foot
If it is a clip on foot, then you just need to raise the pressure foot lever, put your fingers onto the pressure foot and press downwards, it should unclip.

To put one on, place the pressure foot onto the needle plate under the pressure foot bar and lower the pressure foot bar down onto the foot, lining up the base of the foot holder with the little bar on the foot, it should click into place.

If in fact you have no pressure foot dial you can try a teflon pressure foot. It will allow you to turn your fabric a lot easier.

The walking foot replaces the normal pressure foot on your machine. There is a screw on the left-hand side of the pressure shaft that holds the ankle (if your Necchi uses snap-on feet) on the shaft. Loosen this screw until the pressure foot (or the pressure foot/ankle combination) comes off. Now slip the walking foot on where the other foot came off and tighten that screw. You're ready to go!
