Defrost timers usually cause this type of frost build up. However it can also be caused by the defrost heater and/or heater thermostat, and these items are behind the panels therefore not easy to get to. Also before you attempt to take the panels apart make sure the refrigerator is unplugged.

Try rearranging all items inside fridge and freezer so that air may circulate around all items easily and then check seals on doors and ensure doors are closed completely and not leaking cold air. Also do a complete thaw/ defrost. You can remove the plastic coverings and ensure all ice is defrosted. Using a hair dryer will speed up thawing/defrosting process.

Fridge freezer stoping after 24 hrs

most of these freezers have an automatic defrost cycle.
after so many hours of chilling it will stop and run a de-icing cycle.
this is accomplished by one or two heating elements.
if one of the elements is burned out it will not run the defrost cycle.
and will ice up quickly.
depending on the model the heaters will usually cost about 15 to 20 dollars and they are easy to replace.
look up the model of your freezer and download the pdf files they will usually have a pictorial diagram showing the location
a defrost timer usually does nt fail on them unless it is physically damaged.

I have a Maytag 3 door ,freezer on the bottom, for the last 3 years every few weeks the fridge looses its coldness and the freezer is ice cold also it it always on temperature 1, so I have to unplug it...

Either, the defrost timmer has had it, or the freezer defrost element has failed, the element is the most common cause of this type of problem. You have ice build-up in the freezer cores because it cant defrost, all frostfree units rely on cold air from the freezer to blow into the fridge, if the freezer cores become blocked, air can not pass to the fridge side. I bet you, if you left the unit off for 2 days to defrost totally,,,,with the doors open...then plugged it back in, it would work like new for 2 weeks.
Timmer or defrost element needs to be replaced...do not fall for the trick that the fridge mech. has to take it away, you tell him that this is the problem and you will save yourself ALOT of cash.

Dont forget to vote for the solution...regards Russ

I have the same problem

Most probably defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer. This can also be caused by the drain hole being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost.

Fridge freezer side by side running constantly but not cooling.

Make it a habit to defrost it every week. You see, when ice forms around the evaporator tubes (which runs around the walls of fridge and freezer), heat exchange reduces (that means heat is no longer absorbed from the things inside the refrigerator) and cooling stops. See whether freezer walls or fridge walls are damaged. Do not use knives or any other sharp tools to remove ice. Do not forcefully remove items that are difficult to take out from the freezer. Defrost and remove them.
