As it has a tube, there seems no actual reason for that. The glass cannot change optical characteristics nor the coating on the inside of the tube. Maybe it is an optical illusion.

These sets use a OPTICAL LIGHT ENGINE---heat from the lamp often damages the engine (blue portion is first in line for heat)
Based on model number you likely have a bad engine---Contact Sony as several of these models are being covered for this even if out of warranty--if yours is covered (class action lawsuit caused this) they will either repair or replace the set for free.
If not the Part can wholesale for over 1,000 dollars.
Indicates for model shown a bad optical light engine---check with Sony as several models this is covered even if the set is out of warranty (CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS GOT THIS).
It is the most expensive part in the set not even of course counting labor to replace it.
I have a Sony 42 inch Grand WegaKDF-E42A10. The screen has a yellow tint and a 6 inch diameter faint yellow circle around the center of the screen. How do I fix it?
The yellowing of Sony’s KDF-60WF655 rear projection is a problem with the SXRD optical engine. This turned out to be a big problem on many of the SXRD TV's. Sony actually had a class action lawsuit that covered the optical engine for 5 years. My unit was replaced in June of last year (2009) about 1 month before the coverage ended. My unit had a bad yellow streak on the right hand side. Sony no longer covers the cost of replacement, as the class action suit has now expired. Sorry for the bad news. Its not clear if a new optical engine will suffer the same fate after a few years. Sony’s rear projection TV's are amazing and the picture rivals many of today’s LCD's and Plasma's. Any authorized Sony Tv repair shop will no exactly your problem and will be able to give you a fixed price to repair. Hope this helps
Unfortunely your optics engine needs replacing, (Light Engine).. The only solution to repairing this problem is to replace the optics engine, One of the LCD Screens has gone bad.

This TV is known for issues with the optical block(light engine) The discoloration is coming from the LCD panels in the light engine that have been damaged by the intense heat produced by the lamp. There is a class action lawsuit settlement between Sony and the New York state attorney general's office. Sony agreed to cover these problems going back 4 model years. if you had to pay for the repairs on this TV, you could expect to pay more than $1000 to replace the light engine. Call Sony customer relations at 1-800-222-SONY
and tell them you want this covered per the agreement I mentioned.
