Hi While sliding the old belt off of the drum and pulleys loop one end of the new belt around the drum. Adjust the belt so it fits into the middle of the belt groove.Now Position the other end of the belt around the motor pulley. Pull the idler pulley toward you. Position the belt along the groove of the idler pulley. Release the idler pulley to make the belt tight. Please check the bellow instruction for more details. First unplug the electrical cord before replacing the dryer belt.Pull open the dryer door and locate the screws underneath the top lip that secure the top of the dryer. Unfasten the screws holding the top on with a screwdriver and lift the top, flipping it back and resting it on the hinges.Unfasten the holding the front panel on the cabinet, using a screwdriver. These screws are at the top on the inside of the panel.Disconnect the door switch wires on the back of the front panel by hand, pulling the connector straight out off the electrical prongs and setting the front panel aside. Locate the idler arm pulley next to the motor on the bottom of the cabinet near the back and push the idler arm forward to relieve the tension on the old belt.Remove the old belt from around the idler and motor pulleys as well as from around the dryer drum and take the belt out of the dryer cabinet.Place the new dryer belt around the drum in the center of the cabinet, fitting the belt inside the V-groove in the center of the drum, and lay the rest of the belt on the bottom of the cabinet near the idler pulley so you can access it easily. Move the idler arm forward to allow room for the belt and thread the end of the new belt around the idler arm pulley and over the motor pulley, letting the idler arm move back to apply tension to the new belt. Check the new belt over to verify that it is lined up correctly in the V-groove on the drum and around the pulleys and that there are no twists in the belt. Place the front panel back on the dryer cabinet, securing it with the screws on the top of the panel with a screwdriver, and plug the door switch wires back into the electrical prongs, pressing the switch wires on by hand on the back of the front panel.Lower the top of the dryer back down onto the cabinet and secure it with the screws underneath the lip of the front panel. Plug the electrical cord of the Hotpoint dryer into the electrical outlet. A dryer's idler pulley wheel serves to help the belt to rotate the drum. If it becomes worn, or if it breaks, then the drum will be impeded in its attempts to tumble and rotate. Inspect your dryer's idler pulley wheel and idler pulley arm. If it is excessively worn, has little cracks, or is broken altogether, you will have to replace it.
With your dryer opened up, you'll notice that the belt loops over the drum, under the idler pulley wheel, and around the motor's drive pulley. Tension is applied to the belt by the idler pulley wheel that sits on a moveable arm.
You can now reach into your dryer, to the belt. Be weary of any sharp edges on the inside of the cabinet and the interior supports. Tug on the belt. Is should be tight, with only a little give when you tug on it. Push the idler pulley towards the motor so that you can release the tension on the belt. Now you can remove the belt and inspect the idler pulley wheel.
Look closely at the pulley wheel. Take note if it is noticeably damaged, or if it is no longer maintaining the required tension. Spin the pulley wheel. It should turn smoothly and quietly, without any wobble. If your dryer's idler pulley wheel assembly is damaged, excessively worn, or no longer functioning as it should, it will have to be replaced. Depending on your dryer model, you may be able to replace just the wheel, or the entire idler pulley wheel and idler pulley arm assembly.

Should the idler pulley be loose or tight as I have not found a way to have it stay in position it just wiggles around.

The pulley and arm look to be OK only moves about easily. Is it possible that I have the wrong belt? There is about an inch of give around the drum when installed. As I do not have a manual the belt I ordered online was a GE/Hotpoint belt WE12M29. Can you verify that I have the correct belt please.

As the idler pulley wobbles and no longer creates tension on the belt I assume it will need replacing - can you forward instruction on replacement of this part for my dryer.
