I have a computer running 2 nvidia tesla c2070 cards (controlled by a Quadro FX card) using ubuntu 10.10 everything is set up and I can access all cards using the cuda sdk. - however, under load they reach temperatures of 100 C - even with the case open - according to the thermal monitor. Is this safe - and how can I further cool the cards?

If any doubt about the fans in your computer (CPU, GPU, case...), you must monitor the TEMPERATURES, with a software, and with your fingers by gently touching surfaces : if it hurts (really HOT), stop the computer and fix the fan...

That computer can handle an 8800GTX because it does have 1 PCIe x16 slot for it, which is what the card requires. It also should have enough power for that card as well. I imagine the Quadro is in the PCIe x16 slot though so you have to choose which card to use, not both.

Quadro cards are for workstations that are for 3D modeling and things of that nature. They are very expensive graphics cards but do not play games all that well. I imagine the 8800GTX would play games better, and certainly run Crysis if the resolusion and settings are not on HIGH.

Although it may not be your video card thats the problem. when youre computers posts, it beeps once. If it is beeping more then once youll want to check with the board manufacturer to see what the code its giving means.
