I own a Gateway nv7802u laptop computer that has recently crashed. When I turn the computer on, I get the normal Gateway startup followed by a black screen that says: PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key I do have the set of 3 recovery discs. When I put in disc 1, I get a black screen that says "Windows is loading files..." which takes about 5 minutes, then a Gateway Recovery Management box pops up and asks me to select a language in which to view the instructions. I select English and the next screen asks me to select restore type: Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults Restore Operating System and Retain User Data Exit The problem is that the first two options are "grayed" out so I can only select "Exit." When I select exit, the whole process starts over again. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Check and see if the hard drive came loose check the bios to see if it is recognized..It is saying there is nothing with an O/S on it and when you put the disk in it does not register a hard drive to restore..Check the hard drive and start the computer up and see if you can cancel the restore and start the laptop up regular..

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If this does not work then reboot and go to theBIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn'tdetect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to determine if thehard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an external hard drive and you cannot open the various folders and files, this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

change your boot priority. press power button then keep on tapping F1 key until your reached to setup utility. go to boot menu and set your boot priority 1 to your HDD. if compute wasnt able to detect your HDD . then there is a problem wth your HDD, you need to call you manufacturer for HDD replacement if unit is still under warranty

Hi. I think the problem on this one is its either your Harddrive has already failed or your Optical Drive has a cd inside, so double check your Optical drive if there is a disc inside it. If not this issue is also with the operating system, you can try to restore your system by pressing the One Key recovery(OKR) button found beside the power button which has a logo of an arching arrow, but remember to plugin first the ac adapter on your laptop before pressing the One Key Recovery Button and also do not press the power button to turn on your computer because when you press the OKR button it will automatically turn on your computer and proceed with the recovery process. When it gives you some option you should choose One Key Recovery and then choose System Recovery, then factory default and from there it will guide you to the whole process of recovering your machine. If this doesnt fix the issue you could also try using the Recovery disc to restore your sytem t its original settings just like the OKR. Lastly you can contact the tech support dept. of Lenovo, they are open 24/7 and this the number to contact:
US/Canada: Available 24/7 1-877-4LENOVO (1-877-453-6686)
Australia: Available 24/7 1300-557-073
New Zealand: 9am-9pm Mon-Fri 0800-446-833. Hope this helps

Spilled coffee on my gateway NV7802u notebook and now will not boot up with diagnostic cd

Regret to tell you that this may be due to multiple circuit damages as the motherboard is located rite underneath the keyboard. I suggest you not to try starting-up the laptop as this may cause further damage. Take it to a hardware shop and they would be able to diagnose the problem precisely.

Computer screen flashes black and locks up or reboots.

You need to find out why your laptop is overheating, usual suspect is dust, make sure that your heatsink ribs and the fan are clear from dust, could also be worth putting new heatsink paste on the processor and graphics chip

When i start my gateway netbook lt20 a black screen pops up asking to start windows normally or 3 other options.. why?does this happen?

Usually because you didn't shut windows down properly before turning your computer off or completely draining your battery. If that is the case then simply select start windows normally and as long as you follow the correct shut down procedure it shouldn't happen again. If it does there may be a problem with your windows instalation.

Turning on my gateway 510 x PC I get a black screen/white cursor

Did you make any changes recently (add memory, etc.)? Does it make any beeping noises on startup? I've had this problem occur when putting in the wrong type of memory. If you haven't added memory and there is beeping on startup, find the manufacturer of the MOBO and you should be able to find a beep startup code to tell you what the issue is.

Try going into safe mode upon startup by hitting the F8 button. If it does then hit safe mode to get into your computer. Go to start>accessories>system tools>system restore. Follow the wizard to restore your computer to a date earlier than when you started having problems. Let me know if you have any problems or questions.
