Sounds like the contacts in the buttons are not making contact.. you may want to try taking the remote apart and cleaning the contacts and seeing what happens. If the remote is truely dead you may need a new remote
The remote batteries are dead and need replaced. Most remotes are held together with clips or screws and are easy to open if done carefully. Then replacing the batteries is easy and put remote back together.

remove grille and move latch to open hood-boost battery and use key fob to enter or have locksmith or service station use a slim jim or other type of device to unlock door
This model is supplied with a key for emergencies. There is a plastic panel in the middle of the door with a silver sticker on which the moel number GXB0709 is printed . Lever off the plasic panel to reveal the keyhole.
you dont need to worry,use the key as normal (put in lock to open door)it will still start the car,just split the remote with your hands and the battery is inside it,you can get one at the newsagent,or supermarket easy job
I am a technition for mazda, and if the lights are coming on to the keyfobs, the batteries are fine. What procedure did you follow?
1. Take key out of ignition
2. Shut all doors
3. Open drivers door
4. Insert key to ignition
5. Cycle between On & Lock 3 times, leaving key in Lock
6. Close and open the drivers door 3 times, leaving the door open
7. The Locks should cycle.
8. Press the Panic button on the remote twice.
