Washer fills up and starts. Once it gets to rinse cycle and spin cycle is makes a loud humming noise but wont spin. If i open the top lid and wait a second or two and close it, it starts the cycle. Been doing this about 2-3 weeks and its starting to get to be a problem as i hate having to babysit the washer to make sure it actually spin thru every cycle. Any clues???

If you have a direct drive washer made by Whirlpool, your washer transmission has what is called a neutral drain built into it. It is designed to pump water out before it starts to spin. After water has drained out, the timer has a pause in it where motor shuts off for about 5 seconds. When motor comes back on, transmission is then in gear to spin. If timer never pauses, then washer never goes in gear to spin. Timer is most likely defective.

Remove washer cabinet (easy to remove)and check that "base pads" (there are 3 pads, located under the main tub)are not worn. In case they are worn (even one of them), you should replce them all. Good luck !!

Curdy, it almost sounds like your lid switch is loose or fractured and the lid actuator is not making the switch. Check this out first and post back...Catriver.

SOURCE: washer making loud noise and wont spin

Check and see if the inner drum is loose and floppy.if it is, it's likely the bearings have collapsed, and require replacement...If the drum feels stiff and tight, it could be that something is jammed between the inner and outer drums. Both situations could be costly...Get quotes....Good luck...Nomess

My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSB6300PW0 is about 6.5 years old. In the middle of a wash it started making a very loud humming noise. The machine wont agitate or spin. It still fills and drains the water...

Renee,

This might be too late for you but hope it helps!

I was able to fix a similar problem with the same model washer of a similar age so see if any of the following helps you.

Our washer died during a rinse/spin cycle and started making a horrific spinning/clicking sound when it was supposed to be agitating or spinning. It filled and drained like normal, and the horrific noise stopped when the lid was lifted.

Because of those two facts, I discovered it was likely the direct drive coupling, which connects the washer's motor to the transmission.

Turns out, that horrific sound was indeed the sound of one of the couplings spinning uselessly after it broke.

After some internet research, I discovered it was a simple matter of getting and installing the new coupling, which was very easy to do with a little professional help via YouTube:

Also, here is the website of a parts supplier with great schematics and great prices that I bought the part from.

Good luck!

My kenmore washer model 110.27802690 will not spin and will not drain the water. the motor will make a humming noise but won't come on. we took all the clothes out and it will now fill up the washer, wash...

Under the lid there should be a small hole with a push down flap and that should be the automatic stop, which can either be a bad switch under the top of the machine or could be a broken trip/ prong on the lid that pushes this button when the lid is dropped. When the machine reaches it's spin cycle time leave it turned on and raise the lid push down on this flap with something careful to keep hands out of the washers tub and see if it works then!

Only the rinse and spin cyl wont work on my whirlpool

first check the lid switch, open and close down the lid and listen for a clicking sound,if you don't hear it clicking you have a bad lid switchtry opening the lid with it on spin and stick a screw driver or anything that will fit in the hole where the lid closes down into the hole where the lid switch is,if it runs then you know the lid switch is bad.also on washers,in the rinse cycle only cold water is used in the final rinse,no cold water the washer won't fill and run,the valve will just hum.let me know how you make out,you could also have a bad timer.if you need more help send the model number

Kenmore series 70 washer fills with water but wont do anything else. No electric noises (humming)can be heard. It just fills up and will go no further in any of the cycles. Selecting "spin" or "rinse" does...

The most common cause of the problem you are experiencing is a lid switch malfunction. Symptoms may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, a wash tub that will not drain, and stopping right after the wash cycle and not advancing to rinse or spin cycles.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

NOTE: You do not have to drain or bail the water from the washer tub to perform this repair. Once a defective lid switch is replaced, the washer should drain normally.

A replacement lid switch (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The average price is about $20 - $30 if you perform the repair yourself. Prices differ between sites so shop and compare.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. The lid switch is a very simple repair that you can easily perform yourself. I hope this information is helpful.

Kenmore front-load washer stops at rinse cycle

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
Good luck!

Kenmore washer

Check the lid switch first, make sure when you close the lid the switch is activated with the tab on the lid, if the switch doesnt work, your machine will only fill and wait for the lid switch to be satisified. You should hear the lid switch lick or snap when you open and close the lid.

Start here, if could be the motor or timer, however check lid switch first.

Rinse cycle doesnt work

the humming noise is probably the cold valve operating but no water. check tap not turned off. slowly loosen cold water feed and check if water present
