Sometimes when people lift the machine, they don't use the handles, there is a plate underneath the paper tray that bend, bend it straight and all will be fine

SOURCE: Paper tray will not lift on a GR3770

either the motor is not turning to lift it up or the gear is broken, do you hear the motor turning when the tray is pushed in? take the tray out and look in the back to see if there is anything blocking it also.

SOURCE: I have a FR2910. When the tray lifts to start

I couldn't find this problem reported on the net, but I did come across an interesting blog about a sensor problem on a different model Riso- but since I suspect a sensor error here, it could be relavent:
http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/digital-duplicators/17418-riso-rz-220-a.html
It's either a gear or sensor issue, but I suspect a sensor.
I'm still trying to run down a service manual for you, but there is a different model manual on this site, and it's free, so it might help clue you in if it's close, or has similar sensors:
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/service_manual/datasheets_r_500.html
Of course, the gear mech in the tray assembly could be strung into a different configuration, and that would require a service manual to fix, and a lot of patience.
Here what one fellow said on copytechnet.com:
If anyone is having trouble with their riso I recomend buying one of the CD manuals sold on ebay, and then downloading a hard copy of the manual for their machine.

There are a bunch of test codes that are really helpful, but I wish Chilton's had a Riso manual

That's all I could run down, and I never worked on a Riso, so I can't offer any insight, but since this problem wasn't reported, it must be some tricky sensor or tray feed issue.
I found this link for a "technical manual" which might be useful to you:
http://www.nodevice.com/manual/riso.html

Hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

SOURCE: We have a gr 3750

I had the same problem when I tried to replace the separation pad with a different one. The new one was too thick so Riso thinks it has a paper jam, and there is no error code on the panel for it. Just says clear paper jam and reset.
So you must have a similar problem in the area of the separation pad? It could also be the sensor in that area is bad or out of adjustment. I think it has to be one or the other.

I Have an EPSON Stylus TX700W Printer , & am having problems getting it to feed paper. Have tried all the Paper Jam solving problems to no avail. Printer just keeps saying "The Paper Cassette is...

This can also be caused when the upper cassette tray (for small paper stock / photo paper) becomes detached from the lower tray. There is a gear attached to the lower paper tray which handles movement of the upper paper tray. Make sure that moving this gear causes the upper paper tray to move. If it doesn't, then you need to snap the upper paper try on a little better.

Im having problems with my Riso RZ300. error A-06 and ive tried to clean the paper tray it keeps on flashing the same error. Thanks for your attention David

There should be a numeric extension to the error. Ist it this error A06-403? This means:
Error type A06: Check paper feed tray Error point 403: Either the upper or lower safety switch of the paper-feed-tray is OFF.
Hint: Check the mentioned switches.
