I'm getting low, inaccurate readings as well as no readings at all intermittently. This started a few days ago. I thought it might be the battery, which I've replaced. The problem got a bit better, but only a bit. I'm using buh-bump which has always worked for me in the past. Until this problem started the unit worked great. I have a garmin 410 with the soft strap. I've had it for about 5 months, probably about 250 hours of use.

Is it getting ready for a routine maintenance service? Most such problems are cured or avoided by maintenance and it isn't wise to try and cure problems in isolation unless the maintenance schedule is up to date.
A few possibilities are low cranking speed, insufficient reserve battery voltage, poor spark, worn spark plugs, poor injector spray patterns, fuel pressure low, temperature sensors inaccurate...
do you have a diesel or gas engine?
if its gas most likely you have a grounded ignition wiring.
the short may be intermittent thus it starts then stalls when the voltage supply to the ignition coil is disrupted when the wire gets in contact with earth
Weird, sounds like your battery connections are possibly loose, but
the car wouldn't start properly, or at all, if this was the case. You might just have a loose connection to the dashboard controls?
If you are up to the task, I'd remove the guage console,if you can,and make sure all the connections are tight. Good luck.
