A clone cartridge is a type of third-party ink cartridge that uses an identical chip to the original ink cartridge. People buy cloned cartridges to save money, since original cartridges are more expensive. However, sometimes the Epson printer does not recognize the cloned ink cartridge. After you install the cartridge, you might receive a message that says "An ink cartridge cannot be recognized." In this case, you will have to disable the Epson printer monitor. Install your cloned ink cartridge into the Epson printer. Go to "Start > Control Panel" on your computer. Double-click on "Printer." Right-click on the icon of your Epson printer and choose "Printer Preferences" at the bottom of the dialog box. Click on the tab entitled "Speed and Progress" and see the Epson printer monitor box. Check off the box that says "Disable Epson Status Monitor" to turn off the ink monitor. Click "Save" and close the windows. Your cloned ink cartridges should now work. Solution (1) worked for me on a PX 650. Turned off Status monitor, went through insert cartridges routine, printer then went through head cleaning on its own. Behold it works. Haven't dared turn the status monitor back on yet, going to let it print a few pages first.
