We have a side by side Amana Refrigerator Freezer. It is model SXD22S2L. We started noticing that the things in the door of the freezer were not frozen solid. Like cans of frozen jucie were not frozen, just liquid. The meats, etc. are still frozen but some bags of frozen blueberries, biscuits, anything soft, is not freezing. It is also not making any ice. The water dispenser for drinking still has water coming out. The refrigerator seems to be fine. What do you suggest?

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

hi tanks for the question there are heaters at the spots you said were hot and those heaters are there to prevent moist air from hitting cold surface and create warer droplets from forming on those surfaces i would remove the back of the fridge and vacuum it out that should solve your problem thanks the appliance doc

Defrost system failure.

Defrost timer, heater, therma disk, any one could be bad.

You could manually defrost and this would get the Ref back to working for a couple of days before it iced up again. Remember there is a lot of ice build up on the cooling coils in the freezer that you can't see so, a little extra time with a hair dryer is needed to do a complete manual defrost.

Look at the back of the freezer wall from inside the freezer. Is there frost on it? If there is, you need to replace one of the components of the defrost system. If there is no frost then you need to have a repair made to the sealed system, it is either out of gas or the compressor is running inefficiently

The doors not being shut can make it freeze up,Just thaw again and make sure the doors get shut each time and see what happens,just post back details if it doesn't work after thawing
