If you get that message, believe it.
You will have to enable it either through the software switch or a little switch that some computer manufacturers place on the computer case.
The first thing you can do is open your network connections and see if you can see the wireless connections. If it says disabled, you might be able to right-click on it and enable it.
You can also look in the control panel to see if the HP wireless assistant can be accessed through there (or possibly through the programs list).
Check the Device Manager. For WindowsXP right click on "My Computer" then click Properties. From the Properties window, go to the "Hardware" tab and from there click on the "Device Manager" button. Look for "Network Adapters" and click on the + sign to expand its view. Your network adapter should be listed here ex "Atheros WiFi adapter". If your network adapter have a red "X" on it that means the network adapter is disabled, to re-enable it just right click on it and then click enable.
Hope this help. Goodlick!
You may want to check via network configuration panel in Windows that your wireless adapter is not disabled. If this is not disabled you can try deleting hp wireless assistant. It seems that this program goes in conflict with the windows native wireless manager
