I have a tom tom gps model One XL and it's been working well until two days ago when I noticed there was no voice directions.
I checked and followed the manual step by step and could not get the voice to work.
Yesterday I stopped went to Best Buy and the technician also followed all the setup instructions and said it could be the spaekers.
Other then the speakers everything works very fine.
Help,thanks K.([email protected])
I have had the same problem. I bought my gps used.I soon found out sound would not come out of the gps untill I taped on the back of the gps. I solved my problem. The voice coil in the speaker becomes detached. Their are 4 screws in the back of the gps once you open up the gps the speaker is attached to the back of the inside of the gps. You have to carefully detach the speaker from the back of the gps ( I used a small flat head screw driver like one from a eye glass repair kit ) then press lightly on the center of the speaker wile the gps is trying to talk (hopefully when you do this the speaker will make noise). I stacked 2 dimes in the center of the housing of the speaker then reatached the speaker to the housing thus sandwitching the 2 dimes between the housing and the center of the speaker. For my unit this put enough pressure on the center of the speaker for the system to work. Then I reassembled the gps. It was about 4 or 5 months ago and the speaker still works fine. Some times the easy solution works just fine.
The exact speaker you require can be obtained from DCC Supplies. (www.dccsupplies.com) model # 995200014 price £4.12 plus p&p.
I have a Ton Tom one third edition and had the same problem. The actual problem was the speaker cone wiring it breaks free after use it is very fine. If you tap the unit by the speaker while testing the sound you may here it pop in.
I contacted Tom Tom to order a speaker and was told they don't sell them. I did find a place in the UK that would sell me the speaker for around $40.
What I decided to do was to take a speaker from one of those musical birthday cards that play a song. I tried three until I found one that would work well. It was two large to fit into my 3.5" unit so I wired it to the back and it was a good solution for my older unit.
I have the same problem, i took out the screws from the back of my tomtom GPS and took it apart. I examined the speaker and it seems like thats the problem. it seems like the speaker is blown or the magnetic part came loose. I tried fixing the speaker but its too small to fix. I suggest you buy a new speaker, i would too but its hard to find online. My home phone has a speaker phone on it thats pretty loud so Im going to try and take that small speaker out and connect it to my tomtom and im going to see if it works.
Hello,
you should replace the speaker. I did it on mine (One V3) and now it works fine. You can get speakers at lagrotteauxtresors.fr
May be your tomtom will speak again to you!
Have a nice day.

the voice is not loud hardly hear it
My TomTom One (4N00.005) has the same problem. After about 14 months, the speaker stopped working. When a voice would have come on, the unit makes a little noise like it's trying to drive the speaker but no audio comes out. My best guess is a loose solder connection to the speaker.
My GO 720 just developed what sounds like the same issue. It starts off sounding okay. But about half way through the speech, the audio begins to cut in and out. If I TAP the TomTom as this is happening, it seems to help. But I can't say for sure that it isn't a coincidence. I've had mine for about 6 months.
