Distorted Picture Hi, I have a Toshiba 65HDX82 projection screen tv and for about three months now the picture has been getting distorted. When it first started out it would clear up in about 5 min then it progressed to 10-15 and so on and now it wont clear up at all. The colors great and I can still make out the picture but it's really distorted and shaky. I can watch tv in PIP mode. The POP screen on the left is picture perfect while anything on the right is distorted just like the full view screen. The closest service man is 70 miles away and I can't really afford a long distance service call just to find out my tv is unrepairable or a really expensive repair. Again it's a 2002 Toshiba 65HDX82 projection screen tv. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for taking the time to read my problem. Sincerely David Feltner

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
