Are you trying to connect through a router if so is it wireless?

If wireless have you done the necessary port forwarding?

My laptop is connected to an internet connection but is doesn't connect to any websites?. and it says 'the internet connection was reset'.. what should i do?

Hello,

Try using a different browser on your laptop. If you are able to view sites using a different browser then you have narrowed the problem down to that browser.

If not, then try resetting your network devices. Turn off the modem and router and laptop. After 10 seconds, plug in the modem then after 30 seconds plug in the router then after another 30 seconds turn on the laptop. Are you still having trouble?

If so, try checking your internet browser settings. Make sure cookies is enabled and no sites are being blocked. You could also try lowering your security settings in the browser.

If you are still having trouble, try disabling any firewalls and anti virus programs you have running.

Double check you are actually able to communicate past your gateway by pinging some websites from DOS. If you are running windows go to Start and type CMD or Command in the run box. When the DOS window opens, do C:\ping www.google.com or try www.msn.com or www.fixya.com. If you get replies back then you know packets are reaching outside your local network.

I can't connect to internet explorer

Try another Web Browser like Firefox or Mozilla to see if you can browse the web. You have to use another pc to download the firefox/mozilla browser and install it on your non-working pc.

If other browser works, then open up Internet Explorer and click on Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset and click OK/Apply. If that does not work, download IE browser again from another pc and install it on the non-working pc.

If other web browser does not work, verify that you can ping outside and get a reply. Click Start/ click Run and type cmd and press enter. Type ping www.fixya.com and press enter. You will get a reply if you have internet connection. If you do not get a reply when you ping www.fixya.com and other computer connects to the internet, scan your PC for malwares.

Server not found

how would you know if there is a connection. in the manual of the router, or below the unit, there should be a sticker that says IP address and might read something like 192.168.1.1 or equivalent. Now, go to Start - run - cmd in your router and type in Ping the numbers you found there. if you get 'reply from 192... " 4 times, it means you have a valid connection between your computer and the router, else no .
If you get a reply, then try ping 4.2.2.2 which is a universal DNS. if you get replies for this, then it means you are able to connect to the internet but not able to browse. then it could mean a browser issue.
I would suggest you try another browser / pc to make isolate the problem
Thanks

Connecting a dvmre to a wireless router

Everything sounds ok. Try to add more port in your port forwarding. Actually, even if you don't forward port 80, by default its already open because that is for internet access. Research more port that your dvmre is using. You may want to isolate the problem by connecting your dvmre directly to the modem and check if it works there. If not, maybe your ISP is blocking some port the your dvmre is using.

Connecting a DVMRe to a PC

I have done what you are talking about with making the one router act as a network bridge. It is a pain in the **** to do but with enough time it can be done. The main things you need to do are:
  1. Configure the 2nd router as a bridge/access point.
  2. Disable DHCP on that router and give it a static IP address on the same subnet as your main router.
  3. Use the same exact wireless encryption for both routers. I believe I used WPA2 and set the passwords for both to be the same key.
  4. Pray.
LOL. It is a pretty involved project and took me a little bit. The only reason I did this in the first place was I promised my gf that I wouldn't spend 100$ to get my XBOX360 online and since I had a spare wireless laying around I decided to see if it could be done. I'll see if I can dig up a few sites I visited that helped me along the way. Good luck!
