I have a Little Giant submersible pump Model # 6E-CIA-SFS It has been in a sump basin for about a year. During the last rain, the basin filled up but the pump did not come on until I move the pump a little. It then pumped the water out and stopped. The basin filled again without the pump coming on. I pulled it our and checked it and it appears to work ok. It appears to work fine when I shake it abit but the float does not seen to have the ability to turn the pump on when the basin fills unless it gets moved. Is the micro switch bad?

When you gently lift and lower the float, do you hear a "click"? If not the switch has failed and must be replaced or another method of controlling the pump must be installed.
According to above documentation, CIA model has a diaphragm that actuates the switch to turn it off and on. If the vents are plugged with trash it won't work. If the diaphragm has failed it could have water in the switch works. Either way you need to take the switch mechanism apart and clean and inspect it. Hopefully it is just gummed up with gunk from what ever you are pumping and a good cleaning will make it work again. You can also check the switch while you have it apart, should "click" when actuated. Be gentle, this stuff is fragile! Be safe. Remove all power before you start!!!
Sorry to tell you this but youre going to need to get a new one.
Try a place called "harbor freight" think you might like the prices as well as the fact they ship it really fast.
Just take a look at the online cat.
Good luck,Gary
This pump works off of a pressure switch. You can remove the cover on the switch located on the side of the pump. You can either buy a switch repair kit, or you can open it up and take a look and see if the diaphragm is sticking. If you remove and clean the parts, you may have some success. Or, just buy the switch repair kit from your local Little Giant dealer. Good luck!
