Activating Personal Ring
You can assign special ringer tones to anyone in your phonebook. When your phone gets a call, it looks up the Caller ID information in your phonebook. If you've assigned a personal ringer to that number, the phone uses it so you know who is calling. To turn the personal ringing on or off, follow these steps:

  1. Press [Menu/Select]. Select the HANDSET SETUP menu, and then the PERSONAL RING submenu.
  2. Move the cursor to select ON or OFF.
  3. Press [Menu/Select]. You will hear a confirmation tone.
Selecting a Ring Tone (Handset only)
You may choose from four melodies or three tones for your phone's primary ring tone. Each handset can use a different ring tone or melody. The available ring tones are as listed:
  1. Press [Menu/Select]. Select the HANDSET SETUP menu, and then the RINGER TONES submenu.
  2. Move the cursor to select a ring tone. As each ring tone is highlighted, you will hear a sample.
  3. When you hear the tone you want to use, press [Menu/Select]. You will hear a confirmation tone.
Adjusting the Speaker Volume
Handset Speakerphone: You can choose from six volume levels for the handset speakerphone. To adjust the speaker volume while on a speakerphone call, press the UP Arrow button (to make it louder) or the Down Arrow button (to make it softer).
Base Speaker: You can choose from ten volume levels for the base speaker. To adjust the speaker volume while call screening or playing messages, press [volume +] (to make it louder) or [volume -] (to make it softer).

Adjusting the Audio Tone
If you aren't satisfied with the audio quality of your phone, you can adjust the Audio Tone of the earpiece while on a call. Your phone gives you three audio tone options: low, natural and high; the default setting, Natural Tone, is recommended for hearing aid users. Audio tone adjustments only apply to the earpiece, not the speakerphone.
To adjust the audio tone:
  1. While on a call, press [Menu/Select].
  2. Move the cursor to select AUDIO TONE, and then press [Menu/Select].
  3. Move the cursor to select desired option (HIGH TONE, NATURAL TONE, or LOW TONE), and then press [Menu/Select]. Selected option appears in the display for two seconds, and then the display returns to normal.
Deleting Phonebook Entries
You can delete a single phonebook entry at a time or all phonebook entries at once:
To delete a single phonebook entry:
  1. When the phone is in standby, press the phonebook key.
  2. Find the entry that you want to delete and press [Menu/Select].
  3. Select DELETE. DELETE ENTRY? appears in the display.
  4. Move the cursor to select YES.
  5. Press [Menu/Select]. You will hear a confirmation tone, and DELETED! appears in the display.
Deleting Caller ID Numbers
  1. To delete only one Caller ID number, press the Caller ID button when the phone is in standby, and then find the number you want to delete.
  2. Press [Menu/Select] and select DELETE ENTRY.
  3. When the phone asks you to confirm, select YES.
  1. To delete all the Caller ID numbers, press the Caller ID button when the phone is in standby, and then press [Menu/Select].
  2. When the phone asks you to confirm, select YES.
Note: When you delete a Caller ID number, you delete it permanently.

Deleting a Redial Record
If you want to delete a phone number from the handset's redial list, follow the steps below:
  1. When the phone is in standby, press [Redial/Pause].
  2. Use the UP Arrow button and the Down Arrow button to scroll through the redial list.
  3. When you find the redial number you want to delete, press [Menu/Select] and select DELETE ENTRY.
  4. When the phone asks you to confirm, select YES. The redial number is deleted.
Resetting the Voice Message Waiting Indicator
  1. When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset flashes and VM appears in the handset display.
  2. In the event your message alert tone gets out of sync with your phone company's voice messaging system, you can reset back to its original "no messages waiting" state.
  3. To reset, press and hold [find hs] on the base for five seconds.
  4. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.

My Uniden M/N:D1788-2 is not working correctly. It will only ring once before machine picks up & red light continues flashing.

Likely the two ring answer is "toll saver" You'll need to retrieve new messages. Once all new messages have been reviewed, it should return to the programmed number of rings, see "ring time" in the manual.

ALL messages may be deleted as follows;
delete all messages With the phone in standby, press Delete; press Delete again to confirm.

If answering system messages have been retrieved, a continuing flashing indicator could be your voice mail service;

Voice Message Notification • If you subscribe to a voice mail service, your phone can notify you when you have a new message. This feature supports Frequency-Shift Keying (FSK) notification. Contact your voice mail provider for information. • When you have new messages, the display shows a message icon. After you listen to your messages, the message icon turns off. If it doesn't, you can reset it. With the phone in standby, open the menu and select Global Setup; select VMWI Reset, then select Yes

It rings a long time, then asks for a code number, no matter who is calling.

This sounds like a "full memory" situation: the answering
machine only has a ~12-minute capacity.

When the message memory is full, it cannot pick up and
take a new message ( ...its limited space is full...)

Ringing ~10 rings is an indicator to you, the owner,
calling in to check messages that it is full. It asks the
caller for the Remote Access Code so the caller (you)
can listen to & manage ( DELETE !) some messages.

Basically, you just need to clean up the answering
system by deleting old messages...all should return
to normal then.

Good luck!

Turn off voicemail 6408D+

Turning off voicemail is usually done by the voicemail administrator, they can reset passwords and add or delete a mailbox on an extension. The number of rings before going to voicemail is usually system wide, and that program is changed by whoever programs your phone system.

THE ANSWERING SYSTEM WON'T RECORD MESSAGES,ALL MESSAGES GOES INTO POOVIDERS VOICE MAILE, AS IF MY PHONE IS BUSSEY?????? I CHECKED AND RECORD TIME IS NOT SET TO ANNOUNCE ONLY ANS ALL MESSAGES HAVE BEEN...

This happens when the number of rings to answer of the provider voicemail is less than the number of rings to answer that the answer machine is set for. For example: if your provider voicemail rings to answer is set for 3 rings and the answer machine is set for 4 rings then the voicemail answers before the 4th ring, therefore the answer machine will never get a message. I would call the service provider's customer service number and request they increase the rings to answer above the number of rings to answer that the answer machine is set for. If you don't want voicemail to answer any calls(when your line is busy or when the answer machine is turned off) ask your service provider to disable voicemail.

NEC DT300 Series - Having a problem deleting a voicemail messages. I delete the message but the system isn't deleting the messages and the light won't go away. How do I do a hard delete?

Try accessing your voice mail from a different number. Just call your number and press pound once you hear ringing. If this doesn't work contact your phone company.

MagicJack dials out, but then, it does not ring.

Despite MagicJack's sales hype, it DOES NOT work with all phones. In particular, it will not ring phones with DECT 6.0 chipsets (internal electronic guts) from certain manufacturers. This includes an ATT name-brand phone that I returned because it wouldn't ring, as well as a Motorola name-brand L402C (manufactured by Binatone) that I bought to replace it. Both phones recognized that a call was coming in, and caller ID even showed the caller's number. But the chipset that triggers the ringer and the answering machine doesn't recognize the ring signal, so the phones won't ring or take messages. This is NOT a power issue and a USB booster will NOT help in this case. According to techies on other websites, the MagicJack outputs a 50 volt 20 Hz pulsed D.C. ring signal. Most phones (especially crappy old phones) are happy with that. But the aforementioned state-of-the-art DECT phones will apparently recognize only the standard 40-to-90 volt sine-wave A.C. ringer signal that phone companies have used forever. So the only thing that I can add to MagicJack's advice, "try a different phone," is, "try a crappy old phone." Until they publish a list of phones that will/will not work (as if they even give a s**t enough about their customers to do that), that's probably the best advice.
