Sony AVD-S50ES DVD Player Had this in storage. Decided to sell. Verified it played CD's and DVD's video and audio were being sent out appropriately. Track info displayed on front panel. Buyer claims that there is no display being shown on front panel. Have not verified if the DIMMER function is activated on remote, but I would think there would be a momentary display if the remote was operated. Any thoughts?

There are 2 buttons on the remote that could be affecting the display, one is DVD DISPLAY and the other one is DIMMER. Press DVD DISPLAY to cycle ON/OFF with each press. Press DIMMER if nothing is displayed.

Be careful that it isn't a scam.
Some people will claim non-functionality hoping to get a refund without having to return the perfectly working unit.
It's possible it was damaged in shipping, but unlikely if it was packed well.

If they are demanding a refund, tell them that your policy is like any other - they need to return the unit, and once you have verified that the unit is indeed defective, you will issue a refund.

Sony CD/DVD Player DVP-NS50P not playing my avi files DVD+RW

You need to convert avi files to dvd format before burning, otherwise the player won't recognize them. Google "avi to dvd" and you'll find a number of free or pay programs that will do the conversion for you.

Using remote to play video DVD

You need to bypass your A/V tuner for your video connections (if possible). Plug your video directly into the TV and audio into the tuner. This will also give you a cleaner signal/picture as it does not have to processed by your tuner BEFORE it goes to your tv. Think of it as cutting out the middle man. Your tuner is best left for powering your speaker and not controlling your video despite all of the available connections in the back of it.

I would also get rid of your VHS and cassette players as they are dead technology. Clean up your system and remove the clutter. This will lessen your chance of getting interference. Good luck!!

Audio selector does not mute unselected inputs

There is a matrix switching IC on the circuit board that switches and routes the sources. This IC (for the audio) may be damaged, or it is not being properly commanded by the uPC controler. You will have to send the reciever to a qualified service tech to have this verified. Troubleshooting this can get involved if the fault is more than just the matrix IC.
