When you say computer crashed, when you restart it what happens? Does windows start?

Usually you can go to control panel and create a new disc if you lost it.
Or there will be a seperate partition on your hard drive that has the contents of the restore disc.
When the PC boots up at start it should say something like Hit F10 or similar key to restore?

This camera becomes a USB Drive when you connect it to the computer automatically when you turn it on so yes just connect and it will work, no software is required. If you have lost the PC cable then you could also get a XD Card reader which costs less then a £10 and just copy them off the card to your PC.
