Hi there, i don't know your TV brand but this could be of help anyway. there is an adjustment for horizontal and vertical width. you can manually adjust the setting until it fits the picture on the screen. for standard TV it has trimmer in the CRT board. If in your case you have a soft adjustment in the remote control try to adjust it. Learn how the menu works just look for the picture adjustment.
Good luck, please rate and vote.

The score on football games on fox and cbs are halfway off the screen. How do I fix this?

Hello

It is likely that you have the "picture size" set to a mode that does not match what the channel is actually providing.

Go to the Menu options on your TV and then look for the Picture options. Change the size between the different options (typically 16:9, 4:3, Wide, Fit to Screen, etc.) and see which mode works best for the Fox and CBS broadcasts.

It is likely you have the TV set to Wide or Fit to Screen. Both change the settings to make 4:3 broadcasts fill the screen of a wide screen TV. Changing this to 16:9 should allow you to see the information on the sides and bottom of the screen again.

How do I get the picture to be as big as the tv

The picture is controled by the zoom on the tv remote and on the reciever remote. if you're looking at Wide screen containt the your screen will be black on the top and bottom, zooming will make it fit but you will loose some left and right info. Only HD containt formated for home tv's will, like Oasis, or National geographics, ect will give you full screen. Wide screen is for Movie theaters not TV. This realy sucks but to get a large Wide Screen Picture, You have to buy a supper large tv otherwise, the Wide screen image is small and wide and preaty much anoying with a short wide picture with black bands on top and below..
Sorry. We all have to live with this stuff.

How do I see the hole picture on my Philips match lll line. Black corridors on each side cuts away the sides of the picture. /t

You may actually be looking at the entire picture. The newer televisions have a 16:9 aspect ratio (16 units wide for every 9 units high). The older sets had a 4:3 aspect ration, and a lot of material was made for the 4:3 screens. There are three ways to look at this material on a wide screen set: use the "shadow box" you describe, stretch the picture sideways to fit the screen, or expand it to fit width and lose the top and bottom of the picture. Your choice depends on the material and your personal preference.

Now, if you know you are looking at wide screen material, you need to correct a setting in the view format options. These settings go by various names in the instruction manual and on-screen menus - "resolution", "aspect", or "display format" are common. I haven't seen the menus on a Phillips set, so I don't know what term they use.

Picture doesn't fit screen

If you haven't tried to change the format yet, try that first. Most of these tv's have a wide range of options from full to wide to split etc. Stretch would probably work in most hd formats.

I have a T5054 TV and the picture has zoomed in and is way too big, however in the picture settings menu the zoom option is not highlighted in Component mode.

There could be a problem, but verify the settings as listed in the owner's manual as follows:

1 Press the MENU button to display the menu.
Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Picture, then press the ENTER button.
2 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Size, then press the ENTER button.
3 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the screen format you want.
Press the ENTER button.
Press the EXIT button to exit.
16:9 : Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.
Zoom1 : Magnifies the size of the picture on the screen.
Zoom2 : Expands the Zoom1 format picture.
Wide Fit : Enlarges the aspect ratio of the picture to fit the entire screen.
4:3 : Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode.
Just Scan : Use this function to see the full image without any cutoff when DTV
or HDMI 720p/1080i signals are input.
Press the P.SIZE button on the remote control to change the picture size.

And realize the restrictions as listed:

• In TV, VIDEO, S-VIDEO, and COMPONENT(480i, 480p) modes, all screen
modes can be selected. (16:9 ➞ Zoom1 ➞ Zoom2 ➞ 4:3)
• In COMPONENT(720p, 1080i) or HDMI(720p, 1080i) mode, 16:9, 4:3 and
Wide Fit can be selected.
• In Zoom1, Zoom2 and Wide Fit modes, you can move the picture on the
screen by pressing the ▲ or ▼ button.
•You can not change the picture size when PIP is set to Double.
•When Double ( , ) mode has been set in PIP, the Picture Size cannot
be set.
•Wide Fit can be used when watching a Digital HD (High Definition) signal.
Wide Fit sets the optimum picture format by expanding it both horizontally and
vertically. For example, you can reset the picture in 4:3 format to 16:9. Wide Fit
does not support all external devices (DVD, VCR etc.).
