To do a test on your text messaging capabilities, you can send yourself a text message by entering your mobile number in the to/receipent field. In doing this you are testing your in/out messaging. If you are not able to receive text, then you will need to call your wireless provider to have the issue corrected. The outgoing and incoming messaging features are separate in the cellular switch, which means that one would work and the other not.
You need your message centre number for outgoing text messages. You can find the number by going on your networks website or by phoning you networks customer services.

SOURCE: sending text message failed
i'm not sure but this might be due to the non-removal of undelivered text messages from the sent items... plss do check,,...
SOURCE: unable to send text messages
Generally if the phone is giving a "cannot send" or "message failed" error message then there is something wrong with the "switch" In order to fix this you need to contact your providers tech support and they should be able to fix the issue...
You can also try sending the picture to your own number... sometimes that will help push it through the switch...
Also make sure that you are using the area code of the numbers that you are sending it to...
Alltel for example, will not let the message go through if the area code is not inserted
SOURCE: Unable to text
problem is still there after confirmation of message centre number.
I think the only solution for this problem is to reinstall the software coz this particular problem in N73 is a common one. So am also about to reinstall the software.
