you have a broken inverter board. I have a LT30HV, and it had the same problem. The inverter board supplies power to the backlight. Swap it out with a good one, and you're back in business.
To test, take a bright flashlight and point it at the screen just an inch or so off the surface. If you can see your picture, then you have a blown inverter.
it may not be worth fixing it. Wait for a good sale on a new one. My inverter cost about 150, and it was a remanufactured part. Not as good as the original part as it flickers just a tad. I had to take the entire TV apart, with pieces literally everywhere. My cats loved it.
SOURCE: Power on problem for My Syntax Olevia LCD TV 23"
I have a 24" Olevia LCD TV. Same symptoms (Stdby LED is on, press power and it flashes off, then back on). The USB cable to the Service Port also worked. But being of sound technical mind, I figured this means that the PC is supplying the +5v to the circuit. What I did was disassebled the TV, carefully disconnected all the cables, and opened it up to reveal the circuitry. I looked over the circuit and noticed the 1000uf/16v capacitor at position CS21 was failed and bulging. I removed the cap, tested it and verified that it was indeed failed. I went to a local Radio Shack and picked up a 1000uf/35v electrolytic, after all, the value is what mainly matters as long as it's not lower voltage than the original. I replaced the new CS21 capacitor back in the circuit (it is polarity sensitive, so pay attention to what the original mounting position is). I reassembled the TV and Viola! Works! No need for the USB cable to the Service Port!
I hope this helps someone!

SOURCE: Olevia 542-b11 LCD HDTV won't turn on. Blue
My Olevia 42" television is several years old. In March of 2012, the infamous "TV will not power on" problem started.
The blue LED light on the front of the TV would go off for a split second, then light up again. The television would not start.
If you are handy with small tools and a soldering iron, you can change the capacitors on the power supply. My Olevia is a model 542-B11.
I bought the repair kit off eBay from seller: sghill99
As of this writing, the seller has sold 37 of these kits. The title of the auction is: Repair Kit, Olevia 542-B11, LCD TV, Capacitors
And if the url is still active, it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230554940338&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160
I made the repairs in March 2012 and it is now August 2012 and the television is still working great. It is turned on and off several times every day.

Hi armageddonba, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Did the TV screen flicker or dim down indicating something was wrong. Was the sound scratchy at some point or did the sound just go out until you unplugged and plugged the TV back in? How long has this been happening before the sound just stopped working?
