Kenwood VR-205 Receiver Logo
Posted on Mar 18, 2011

Hi, I have a problem with my kenwood vr-205 receiver. My problem is that, my original remote that came with the system doesn't work at all. I put brand new batteries to see if it was the problem, but it wasn't. So the next step I did was purchased another brand new remote controller for my model, and that also didn't solve the problem. I don't know what happened, everything was working fine before. I'm now assuming that maybe the sensor started to fail on the receiver side. I would be appreciated if some one can help me fix this problem, so I can use my remote control, so I don't always have to get up to go play my system or even change station or etc. Thanks, Ren

Test the remote by using the camera in your cell phone...you should see the IR lights flashing when you operate the remote...these kenwood receivers are notorious for having cold solder joints on the IR receiver...resolder joints like this http://mysite.verizon.net/amp68/ or http://home.comcast.net/~jcoxdesigns/Kenwood/index.html

I have 2 good qaulity heybrook speakers and have tried everything to connect them properly such that both play sound when the tv / dvd is on. Both speakers work perfectly one at a time and both work...

You're guessing. That is exactly the wrong thing to do. Get the manual.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Kenwood-VR-205-Receivers-manual/id/480ci174/t/2/

"[D]vd 6 channel input" is for a 6-channel analog input as the name implies. I doubt you even have a source that HAS 6 analog channel outputs.

Speakers are OUTPUTS of the amplifers' speaker posts. Any one can work ANYwhere.

And that bi-wire capability, IF the speakers have it - pretend it isn't there.

I have a kenwood receiver vr507 is the model my remote for the unit came with the receiver in the box the remote model is rc-r0720 now it wont work the receiver no more it was working fine and i move set...

Hi William
Assuming that you have tried changing the batteries in the remote (and put the batteries in the right way round) then the chances are that your remote control unit has failed.
Original Kenwood remotes can be bought here http://kenwoodremote.com/

Universal remote controls are widely available in electrical stores and on the internet. You will need to find the right set up code - you should be able to find the code on the same site.

Here are some remote codes for Kenwood Receivers.
The codes are as follows: One of them should work
0027, 0077, 0313, 0186, 0314, 0356

Here is a link to a web site that has universal codes for remotes.

I have a kenwood vr 406 and a kenwood rcr0609 remote. After some time, the remote stopped working , so we got a new remote. This worked about a day. The remote itself seems to be working, because I can...

Kenwood receivers recently have a commonly known problem with its receiving IR diode within the receiver, to fix this you will have to re-solder the connection on the receiver panel within the faceplate of your kenwood receiver.

Instructions to fix it are at the following link if you are willing to open up your receiver and repair it. lots of people have reported this fix as successful so it is widely believed to be a design flaw in the VR line-up of receivers as it has occured in all the VR families so far.

good luck.

Remote dosen't work, trying to code my Sony RM-V302

there's a good chance it's the receiver and not the remote. Just fixed mine this afternoon with help from this blog.

http://blog.moertel.com/articles/2007/05/25/repairing-my-kenwood-a-v-receivers-remote-control-sensor

this worked on my kenwood vr-209. 10 others fixed their kenwood as well from the posts.

Remote control not working...

I'm not sure of the exact fix, but when these components were assembled a few of the connections involving the remote sensor were not saudered. An easy fix if you know where to look.
