Thanks for the Reply on this issue.

I will try taking the battery out and re-installing again, to see if, I can get it to go into hard reset, however I did try taking the battery out and then going through the procedures for hard reset, however the unit would only go into the soft reset.

My understanding of the process on this model is that to perform a hard reset with battery installed both the Ipaq Mobile Media shortcut button and th itask button on the front of the unit has to be depressed. along with inserting the stylus into the reset hole at the bottom of the unit. Problem is, the itask button apparently isn't functioning, as this procedure won't work.

I only got the unit to perform a hard reset once, by removing the battery.

    Thanks Again For your help.

I am having some problems with an HP iPAQ rx3715 that, I recently purchased. I guess

they are not major problems, just nuisances, as I can still use the system. I have my hunch

that, the problem/problems are coming from the windows mobile operating system. I

upgraded the Rom, but that has not solved it. I have ran across some other software

utilities that may help, but am hesitant to put too much on unless I know for sure if it will

really work and if it will create more problems. Anyhow, I will describe what is

happening, in hopes that someone who has more experience than I have with these systems

can offer some solutions. So here it is:

Problem 1: itask control button on front of unit is not responsive. Does not activate any

menus or anything, when depressed. Thus, I have found that until this is fixed, I cannot even

do a hard reset as this is one of the buttons that must be used to activate the reset cycle.
BOTTOM LINE unit will not do a hard reset as described in users manual.

Problem 2: Don't know whether, I should classify this as a problem or not however this is

something else that isn't working either. Anyway the HP Image Zone shortcut button is not

    working either.

Lastly Problem 3: The 5 way navigational control button is not performing down scrolling

on the screen or either right or left scrolling when this button is depressed.

Well, that's it. Hope I have described everything and would be most grateful, if someone

has some good solutions/suggestions on this. I have looked in a lot of places and haven't

came up with anything to correct this yet. If the operating system is causing this, I don't

know how, I can get an upgrade unless Microsoft has some available.

Thanks Again, Hope to hear from someone.

    Thanks

Pulled battery and succeeded at doing a hard reset after about 2 hours.

I still have the same problem as before, even after successful resynch.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks for all who have responded to my request for help on the problem I am having with my Hp Ipaq rx3715, however I don't know whether, I haven't provided enough information on the problem I am having or if no one has experienced this problem as yet. However, I am sure there must be a solution somewhere.

Precisely, the itask button is not working and the image zone button is not functioning as well. Also the 5 way navigational control only moves the bar in the task bar up, but not down as it should. Neither will it move right or left.

In my own research of what could be causing this, I have a suspicion that these things which have not been looked at yet could be causing the problem. I have ruled out third party software conflict as such since the only third party software, I have installed besides the resident internet explorer are the Opera internet browser and the netfront3.3 browser, plus regking. I doubt that any of these programs are causing this. I have tried out the unit without any third party programs on it after a hard reset and the buttons still do not respond.

These are my suspicions and you can tell me what you think about them.

    1. itask button is supposed to respond through a program called itask manager, but I cannot find this program at all on the unit. The other question, if in fact the program is on the unit and I just can't see it since maybe it's hidden or something, has it been disabled for some reason in the registry?? If thats the case how would one enable it in the registry??

The same thing, I think may be the problem with the 5 way navigational control. It may be disabled in the registry.

If the registry has been corrupted by a virus or something this could very well be the cause of this.

My question to the experts is then, are there any tools out there that can be used to diagnose and correct this if in fact it is registry related??

Also, I am assuming that the windows operating system itself is flashed on the rom, so there is no way that I know of for checking anything out there or is there??

If there is a driver or something that is missing how would one determine it?? I have done a rom upgrade and that should have eliminated any of these issues.

So in concluding, do you think it is registry related or just somehow missing the necessary software programs to make the input buttons responsive??

Thank You very much, hope I can get to the bottom of this soon. I have 2 Palm Tungsten units, but never have had a problem such as this. Seemed like there was always a fix for any problems I have had with the Palms.

    Thanks Again

itask button not responding & 5 way navigation will not scroll down when depressed.

Disregard what I said about the 5 way navigation button not scrolling down.

I found, just a little while ago, that it does scroll down, but the down side has to be pressed a little firmer and in the right place.

In response to a the latest answer to my problem by one of your esperts concerning replacing the key pad board, I was wondering if you could give me more detailed information on this if it is a problem with these specific handhelds.

I don't want to send it in to a repair center, if I don't have to. If it is something that I can repair. Also is the keypad board part of the main board?? I did see some pictures of the repair parts for this series handheld and all it showed was a main board for the unit.

I would like to get the unit as fully functional, as I can but if there is third party software out there that will take care of this then maybe thats possible. It is only a used unit anyway.

    Thanks

The new HP iPAQ rx3715 Mobile Media Companion, as well as the hx4700, are operated by Windows Mobile 2003 SE. It is the latest release of the Operating System. However, most software you find runs fine on this version of Windows CE, just don't care of this alert after installing a program. Notice that some customization interfaces, or launchers, such as Wis Bar Advance, will NOT run on these units and may cause your device to lockup or reset. In this case just do not use them. It is also known that some WiFi sniffers used on earlier WiFi devices do not operate too. Microsoft is preparing a release to solve these problems. (Submitted by Maxx)

    Performing a Full Reset
    Perform a hard reset when:

You want to clear all programs and data from main memory
(where data and programs you have loaded are stored).

You want to restore default settings.

A problem with your HP iPAQ is not fixed after a soft reset.

Performing a hard reset on your HP iPAQ does not erase
programs that came with your HP iPAQ. The information that
you have entered into your HP iPAQ will be erased. This
information (or data) includes your Word documents, photos,
    music files, and other settings.
If the battery installed in your HP iPAQ discharges completely,
once the battery has been recharged your HP iPAQ operates as if
a hard reset had been performed.

    CAUTION:

If you perform a hard reset, your HP iPAQ returns to its
default settings and loses all information (files, settings, etc.) that is
recorded in main memory. Information stored in iPAQ File Store will
not be lost. For more information on using iPAQ File Store, refer to
“Learning the Basics? in this User’s Guide. You will also need to
    reestablish your partnerships

  • Anonymous Aug 05, 2008

    To perform a hard reset:
    1. Press and hold the iPAQ Mobile Media (
    ) and iTask
    (
) buttons on your HP iPAQ.

While holding the iPAQ Mobile Media and iTask buttons,
use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom
of your HP iPAQ for about three seconds or until the screen
        begins to fade.

When the iPAQ screen begins to fade, release the iPAQ
Mobile Media and iTasks buttons then remove the stylus
from the Reset button. The HP iPAQ resets and powers on.

If the HP iPAQ does not power on after a reset, try the following:

Check the battery door to ensure it is locked. If not,
replace the battery door by matching the tabs on the
cover to the latches on the HP iPAQ and snap it into
place. This action locks the battery door. If the battery
door is not locked, the HP iPAQ does not power on.

How can i do a master reset on my ipaq, i lost the log on password and can not think of another way to start it.

The only "master reset" i know of is a hard reset. Warning! This will erase all data in the main memory (not in ipaq file store) and reload the operating system from ROM. Afterwards you should restore the latest backup.

To perform a hard reset do the following:
- place the unit on a table with the display facing upwards
- with two fingers of one hand press and hold the leftmost ("Mobile Media") and rightmost ("iTask") button simultaneously
- with the other hand press the reset knob with the stylus

I want to format my ipaq hx2410 please tell me how to do that

To perform a hard reset you need to press buttons 1 and 4 in addition to the reset hole. This should do the trick.

The guidelines for resetting your phone is given below

Performing a Hard Reset

Perform a hard reset only when you want to clear all
user-installed settings, applications, and data from RAM
(Random Access Memory), where data and applications you have
loaded are stored.

CAUTION: If you perform a hard reset, your Pocket PC loses all data
and programs not saved in iPAQ File Store.

To perform a hard reset:

1. Press and hold down the Calendar and iTask buttons.
2. While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to
lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the iPAQ
Pocket PC for about two seconds.

HP iPAQ hx2410 Hard reset

3. When the Pocket PC screen begins to fade, release the
Calendar and iTask buttons first, and then remove the stylus
from the Reset button.

Note: If you simultaneously push and hold the Reset, Calendar,
and iTask buttons for more than two seconds, the battery
disconnects. To restart the device, either plug the device into the
AC Adapter or press the Reset button again.
After performing a hard reset, you may need to reinstall
applications stored in iPAQ File Store to restore shortcuts and full
functionality.

4. The Pocket PC resets and powers on.

To return your iPAQ Pocket PC to factory settings after
performing a hard reset:

1. Tap Start > Programs > File Explorer > My Device.
2. Tap the iPAQ File Store folder to open it.
3. Tap Edit > Select All.
4. Tap and hold the selected files, then tap Delete.
5. Tap Yes to delete all file in iPAQ File Store.

The PC is not switching on

Hi. I assume that you plugged in your original battery after it was out a while. When your device's battery is drained, all the data in your device may be resetted (changes according to your backup battery's condition). So you should first try to plug it into AC power source for a couple of hours without touching it (Let the battery become usable enough). Then, your device should open without any error, but it may take a while because it will install the Operating System from ROM. In most cases, pluging out your battery won't destroy any internal parts of your device, it may just reset it to factory default settings. If there is an error, here is how you can hard reset your device:
HP iPAQ rx3715 Hard Reset:
1. Hold down the Mobile Media button (on the far left) and the iTask button.
2. Then press down the reset button with the styles for a few seconds until the screen goes dark.

3. To turn on your HP iPAQ after your hard reset, either press the reset button again, or plug it into an AC power source.
Hope this helps.

How to Perform a Hard Reset on an HP iPAQ

Performing a hard reset on an HP iPAQ is relatively easy, but is a dramatic step in the management of your handheld organizer. A hard reset will completely clear the memory of your device and restore it to the state you received it in from the factory. A soft reset, on the other hand, simply closes running programs and restarts your pocket PC.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Read the owner’s manual. If you don’t have to do a hard reset, you shouldn’t, and you definitely don’t want to do one by accident. So familiarize yourself with the hard reset protocol offered in the manual.
Step2
Make sure you want to clear all personal settings, saved data and personal files from your PDA. If there are files you wish to retain, save them to a removable disk, or send them to your computer’s hard drive to be retrieved at a later date before performing a hard reset.
Step3
For the HP iPAQ h1900 series, hold down the power button while you use your stylus to hold down the reset button (on the left side of the iPAQ). Hold these buttons for a few seconds until the screen fades to black.
Step4
For the HP iPAQ h2000 Series, press down on the far left and right buttons (calendar and iTask, respectively). While you do this, press and hold the reset button on the back of the iPAQ until the screen fades.
Step5
For the HP iPAQ h5000 Series and H3800 Series, the procedure is the same as the h2000 Series with the only difference being on some models the Today button is used instead of the iTask button.
Step6
For the hw6500 Mobile Messenger Series and hx2000 Series the procedure for the hard reset is precisely the same as for the devices in step 4.
Step7
For the rx3115 and rx3715 models, hold down the Mobile Media button (on the far left) and the iTask button. Then press down the reset button with the styles for a few seconds until the screen goes dark.
Step8
For the rz1710 and rz1715, follow the same procedure as the devices in step 7, with the difference of pressing the Today button (on the far right) instead of the iTask button.
Step9
To turn on your HP iPAQ after your hard reset, either press the reset button again, or plug it into an AC power source.

Tips & Warnings

* If you’re iPAQ is simply slowing down or having problems, try a soft reset (reboot) before resorting to a hard reset.
* Read your iPAQ’s instruction manual to familiarize yourself with how to do a hard reset, and the effects of performing one.
* Do not perform a hard reset unless you are okay with or intend to erase all non-factory installed data and settings from your HP iPAQ.
