If it is a USB external drive it should be recognized by your laptop, it worked for my dell floppy drive from xp to win 7 64bit, if it does not you should download the winxp driver and use it to install in win 7 when it does not recognizes the drive.
-select have drivers
-select downloaded drivers
it would give you an error of pop up saying drivers are not "signed" just go ahead a accept that and it should work.
Let me know if it helps
earn99,,,thanks for your reply. When I plug in the external drive to a usb port it does try to find the drivers in the computer then it goes to Windows update but cannot find a driver that will work in Win 7. The computer does see the drive as when I go to Device Manager it is there but with the yellow exclamation point. When I go to properties I can either browse my computer or have it automatically search for the driver both on my computer and online. I've tried both ways and neither will work. I've tried to Google to find the driver for Win 7 or for Win XP but have been unable to find anything. Sadly I live where I must use dial-up and things are very slow online. Someone in FixYa did have a posting for a driver to resolve this but when I tried the link it gave me a 404 error and I tried several times. I also don't understand why Samsung does not have such a driver on their site. Anyway, not sure where the "select have drivers" would appear so if you can tell me that I can use that IF I ever find a driver. Thanks again for helping this old guy. I do greatly appreciate it.
I've been looking for a suitable driver, may be using one from dell, do you have the part number for your drive to see who manufactured that drive?
Again thanks earm99 for your reply. The drive is a Samsung external floppy that plugs into a usb port. It is a SFD-321u/ep. I looked on the bottom of the drive and the only other info I could find there is a number: FUB2 P4YP8014326. I still have the CD that came with the drive and have tried to use that to get the drive to work in Windows 7 but it just won't work. As I indicated in an earlier post, I have tried to find a driver for this drive to no avail. I may just have to set up my old XP computer and use it with that PC and try to transfer all the data from all the many floppies I have over to CD's. I do appreciate your help in this and thank you again for your efforts.
I understand you need the drivers and you recently commented on my tip page, could you email me or give me your email and I'll send the file to you. my email is [email protected]
