I have a Kirby Heritage Vacuum Cleaner. Recently the handle fell backwords. I took the pin to the handle out and replaced it. It helped some, but the handle does not stay upright.

The solution was rather simplified, and no diagrams. I said I only removed and repositioned the outer pin. I had not opened the casing. I guess what you are recommending is that I have a Kirby dealer fix it.

Kirby Heritage 84

I can't figure out how to get the belt engaged on my Kirby Heritage 84. There are very simple instructions on the front assembly; however, the belt doesn't engage with the rotor, and the beater bar does not spin. When I have the front twisting section on the "Belt On" setting, it seems as though it actually disengages the belt. I see no faults in any of the mechanical parts, but just can't get the belt to go on the rotor.
(I purchased this machine @ a garage sale on Saturday. It's in perfect condition.)
My vacuum cleaner is a Kirby 84 Legend.
Help! Jennifer

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. You can always check your owner’s manual but the Kirby has a dial on the front of the machine and you needs to dial the belt off of the fan pulley counter clock wise and to check to see if the Kirby bell housing will release @ the top so that you can remove the bell housing. If not then remove the bottom plate and take out the brushroll on one side and then slide the belt off of the brushroll. Then you can slide the new belt onto the brushroll to the center and then re-insert the Kirby brushroll with the screw heads facing downward then you can replace the bottom plate – then use the Kirby spoon or hook to dial the belt onto the fan pulley clock wise. Once that is done then plug in the Kirby and try to vacuum to see if the Kirby is picking up properly, if not repeat the process. If you have a question, feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: how do I replace the drive belt on a Kirby G5

I have shot an excellent video repair on how to replace the belt on Kirby Generation Vacuum Cleaners including your Generation 5 (G5). The belt change procedure is the same for Kirby Models G3-G10 Sentria. The video is below in an easy to follow, and understand video. Feel free to use the pause controls to pause the movie as you're fixing the belt on your Kirby.

I hope this video was able to teach you the exact process of how the Kirby belt has to be installed in order for it to work properly. Please, if you have any questions just request a clarification of the repair and I'll be more then happy to help you further, I'm always happy to answer any questions. If you found this video helpful, please kindly rate this repair solution as helpful also. I really do appreciate it, thank you.

Thanks for watching!

Kirby heritage 2 handle wont stay in the upright posision keeps falling backwards

Two things; your bag may be too full and needs replaced. (it doesn't take much to make them top-heavy) or the pin at the back of the base of the handle is not extended.

My Kirby vacuum cleaner will only run for a few

could be caused by bad bearings in the motor or bad carbon brushes and a worn commotator on the armature. check the cord where it connects to the top of the handle on the swivelling strain relief. usually the cord fails there .
