I have a 2GB Optime SD card. I mistakenly reformatted the camera and it wiped out all my pictures. Many many pix from vacation. Anyway to retrieve this? Any help is greatly appreciated. We are extremely disappointed by my stupidity. Fred

Hi Fred
Easily done. Easy to fix too.
There's free software available on the web (use Versiontracker.com to find it) for whichever OS you are using. You connect the card to your computer with a card reader and then run the software. As long as you haven't tried to take more picture on it you should get them all back.
Good luck.

Okay, heres the bad news, there's a good chance that you will not get all of your pictures back. The good news is that most formatting only allocates space as empty, it does not actually overwrite it, so the picture data may still be retrievable.

I have used a sweet little freeware program called Restoration, which can try to recover deleted files from hard drives, jump drives, flash cards, ect, and have had great success with it. Heres a link to the download page:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.HTML

Like I said, it probably wont' restore all the pictures, but I'll bet long odds that it can get most of them back. Good Luck!

Reformatting the card will delete everything on the card HOWEVER I'm not sure about the ones already saved on the camera. Your camera has a USB connection, it may be safer to move the pictures to a pc before you try anything.

Take the card to a store that has a Kodak picture maker kiosk (like Walmart). Your pictures should show up and you can print them or even make a cd. After you do that, format the card in the camera before using it again.

Reformatting sd memory card for canon camera an 8gb card and it told me I coudn't print pictures on my HP photosmart 380 series printer unless I reformatted my memory card??

If your camera is indeed an SD200, am sorry to say an 8GB SDHC will not work in this camera. The camera will fail to recognize it, and will do this by giving various problems as you've run into. The overall problem is that the camera was designed before the SDHC format came out (SDHC cards although the exact same in appearance are different in format than standard SD cards). The largest size card that the SD200 will recognize is a 2GB standard SD card.

Providing you have a SD memory card in the camera and the card is empty you can transfer all the data from internal memory to the SD card using the camera's menu.

Reformatting an SD memory cardf

You can format the card in your camera while not connected to your computer. In fact it's recommended to do so. Read your instruction book to find out how. It should be a selection available from your "menu" button when in image review mode. Select "low-level" or "full" format, not "quick" format (quick format is only good for erasing pictures).
