When I plug my seagate free agent go portable hard drive (250 gig) into my usb, it register's that there is a device pluged into the computer (give's me the DING, that window's is famous for) but say's it doesnt have the file's to run it, I allowed it to download the file's (automatically) and it found them, but it is now saying that there is no drive connected, even though the computer recognizes that there is SOMETHING in the USB, it is acting as though there is nothing there.

Try a different usb drive. if you are using win 7 or vista uninstall that device driver you downloaded. if its xp re install your usb drivers from the windows site just go to your device manager
win 7 vista click on computer sys prop device manager see if drive is connected hit update driver or roll back. same with usb system on win xp right click my comp. go to prop, then device manager let me know if this helps. but really important to make sure that you are plugged into a usb port in the back of the pc not thru a hub

Have seagate free agent go window 7 not reconizing the unit. please help.

Hi,

You can try to use a different usb port of your computer check if it will be detected or try to plugged a different usb device see if it will be detected by the computer. If you have a different computer try to check if it will be detected. If the computer detects a different device it only means that the hard drive that you are connecting to the computer is faulty.

MY Seagate Free Agent Pro 750GB External Hard drive is no longer registering on my computer. It's only about 1/3 full and I need to recover the data. The software on my computer does not detect a free...

Sounds like the enclosure has a problem. If this is one of those free agent go flex drives with the removable USB to Sata interface you might try getting another drive like it and borrow the interface from that drive when you need to use this one. That's something I have to do now because one of my interfaces died also.

How do i retriev my stuff of it to put on computer?

Assuming the harddrive is working, plug it in and click start and my computer( or computer if you are running vista or 7) and then in this window click the name of the harddrive. Then drag and drop?

If you used 3rd party software to back up your data you will need to install that first and run the recovery option

Seagate free agent pro 500 gig external hard drive NOT RECOGNIZED

You better check with the Seagate people. This seems to be a problem with the casing. And since you're under warranty, you can get a replacement.

I plug my seagate into the computer. it turns on but then nothing

Hi,

Plug one usb into your computer and the other end into the drive.
If the light comes on, all is good. The computer should install the device for you automatically. To access the drive, go to My Computer and double click on the Removable Drive. Now you can transfer files.

Hope this helps

Installation issue - Not recognizing

hmm, no problem plugging in either side, just be sure to do the power cable first. What's doing the beep, beep?

Found a guy who had similar prob, here was his solution:
Go to Control Panel. Click on Device Manager.
Check to see if FreeAgent is shown as a disk drive.
If not, check the device list for any Free Agent device, double click and check driver. No driver installed? Update does not work? On the driver tab….click uninstall device.
Shut down computer. Unplug Free agent USB and power at the drive.
Reboot computer. As it is rebooting, plug in the power cord. Wait a minute or two….then plug in USB cord.

Windows will “found new device” ….. Just let the computer complete the reboot.
Then go to the device manager. Chances are you will find Free Agent in the drives….and in the USB list of devices. Open windows explorer….and you should see you Free Agent as a drive.
Windows will ask you to install manufacturer disk. You have no disk…non needed. Windows has installed the device. Just click on close. I you keep getting windows wants to install device…..ignore it. You can click on “don’t ask again”. (That is if your Free Agent drive is showing in the device manager as a disk…and in windows explorer….along with your other drive or drives.)
If at some later time….your Free Agent drive does not appear….repeat the steps as listed above.
(You may think it is not working….or that it has gone bad. Try this before you try to return.)
Seagate Tools…the new version….does not recognize to diagnose the Free Agent….
I have not tried Seagate Tools after getting the computer to recognize the drive.
I am surprised Seagate does not provide a Tool to recognize their own drives…and install and/or test Free Agent.

This does work for me with Vista. Thought I had lost the drive…. Seagate should provide a patch or a drive that Windows will recognize when you get the “found new hardware” and Windows asks you to insert manufacturer’s installation disk. I do not understand why that is not already there….a driver file for Free Agent...that Windows would install.

I did not buy Pro….because I did not need the backup software. I wonder if those who bought Pro are having these problems.
