Why does my dishwasher door fall freely when opened?

There are springs and pulleys that assist the door. They use a nylon rope that is very thin to connect the pulleys door and springs. The rope is most likely broken.

Dishwasher How to avoid Flooding & subsequent lockup tip

So you pressed the button & turned your dishwasher off during the Cycle, to put something in, or take something out, and now it' wont do anything? Well you see, with your dishwasher you must never switch it off mid cycle to open door. You must simply just open the door, or will flood, and then mysteriously shut down. and lock up. Now when and if this happens, the way to fix this, is to lean the Dishwasher over backwards, side to side, tip it over at up to a 45 degree, angle to reset the Flood Switch.

Falls open when? This unit wom't operate unless the door is secure so I assume you mean the door assist springs are disconnected or broken and the door just falls heavily to the open position after you unlatch it from the closed position. Try these, part 18 here

should attach to frame in an easy to distinguish hole or slot and to door hinges, number 2 here

I have an ASKO D3251. Door free falls when opened. No longer has tension to control downward movement.

Your springs are faulty.you have two of them and will need to pull the unit out and inspect.usually on asko dishwasher you have to order the whole tension spring assembly .

Granddughter stood on dishwasher door and now it goes down too far when opening. Spring assembly (pulley type) is FINE...but door goes so far down bottom shelf nearly breaks dishes when pulling out

This happens when people leave the door down, I've seen it many, many times, sometimes the door/hinge assembly can be replaced or even bent back, sometimes it totals out the unit...Good luck !

KitchenAid Dishwasher KUDSO2FRSS

I recently had the same problem. One of the cords that attaches the door to a spring had snapped. I purchased cord replacments at the following URL and completed the repair myself. http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=1059756&PPStack=1

Good Luck, Tim K.

Kitchaide Dishwash Door

There is normally 2 heavy springs & cables that control the "falling" of the door located in the bottom of the machine or it the door itself. Sounds like one (or both) have snapped.
