AnswerEasy get an oil change at a garage and have them erase the code or do the oil change your self and then disconnect the neg battary terminal. Easier AnswerOn the console, where the oil change light is on, scroll through the items until you get to oil life. Once at oil life, hold the reset button and it will say Engin oil new? Press reset again and this should set you oil life back to 100% without needing to disconnect your battery

Complete Answer
1- Turn on the ignition without starting the car
2- You will get warning messages on the display (including the "change oil soon" or "oil change required" message) press reset for each warning till you get the Odometer displayed.
3- press the setup button until "press reset for system check" appears
4- hit the reset button (need to do this fairly quickly, if you end up back at the odometer go back to step 3)
5- the system will scroll through the different things that are wrong that it has detected, you should go to "oil life XX%, Hold Rest New" message first if nothing else more major has been detected. When on this message hold the reset down unit you get the message "if new oil hold reset".
6 - hold the reset down till the message "oil life set to 100%" appears (note have seen different wording in some models)
7 - system should scroll through any remaining messages and then return to the odometer reading
Switch the car off and on and confirm that the message does not reappear. Have seen some instances where will not reset, if so take to your dealer.

NEED TO RESET OIL CHANGE LIGHT

How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System
The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change the engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Whenever the oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where the oil is changed prior to a CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message being turned on, reset the system.
Always reset the engine oil life to 100% after every oil change. It will not reset itself. To reset the Engine Oil Life System:
Display the OIL LIFE REMAINING on the DIC.
Press and hold the SET/RESET button on the DIC for more than five seconds. The oil life will change to 100%.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes back on when the vehicle is started, the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. burdfrenzy

Reset change oil light

hello, here is the instructions on how to reset the light

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:
  1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
  2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
  4. Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

How do i reset the oil life on a 2005 gmc c8500

Most often you need a code reader with a reset function that can connect to the computer jack under the dash and reset factory functions like that. Pain in the tush if you are changing your own oil. Mechanics and dealers have the equipment to do that reset.

Oil Change Reset
A press of the OIL CHANGE RESET switch will allow you to
reset the oil life feature to 100% (or your Personalized Oil Reset
Percentage). After you have the oil changed, you must execute
the following procedure. Press the OIL CHANGE RESET switch
and hold for five seconds as the M/C counts down for five
seconds. After a successful reset the Message Center will display
“OIL LIFE RESET TO 100%.” If you have established a
Personalized Oil Reset Percentage, the display will show that
percentage instead of 100%. To ensure accurate oil life
indicators, perform this reset procedure only after an oil change.
Your Personalized Oil Reset Percentage allows you to establish a
smaller oil change interval than the manufacturer’s
recommended interval. To establish your Personalized Oil Reset
Percentage perform the following procedure:
1. Press and hold the OIL CHANGE RESET switch and press
the RESET switch while the display is still counting down
the 5 seconds to reset. The display will change to “START
OIL LIFE AT XXX%.”

percentage is the Personalized Oil Reset Percentage that you
desire. Your choices are 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%,
