First, be sure you did not change one of the dip switches in the hand held unit while changing batteries. You would have to see if the switches in the hand held unit match the switch positions in the fan receiver.

Hampton Bay fans are sold exclusively by Home Depot. I would check on line or stop by one of their stores to see if you can pick up a HB remote.
Once you get a new remote you have to again make sure the dip switches are in the same position.
