You would have to test for 12v at the starter. If you have none there when a assistant turns the key you need to work back thru the wiring until you find 12v where the voltage stops is the defective component.

You can verify it it's the clutch switch by bypassing (unplug electrical connector and run a small jumper lead between connectors)

Why wont my 1989 honda civic start ? i replaced the starter and battery, wont start, not even off a jump start, but will off a push start get a dull thud sound from the main relay, could it be bad ?

Your Civic has a manual tranny - correct? The problem could be a bad Clutch Safety switch. Many Hondas are listed as having this switch with the manual tranny. The switch prevents the car from starting if the tranny is in gear and the clutch is not depressed, preventing the car from lunging forward. If the switch is there , it is located on the clutch pedal bracket. The switch has two wires, so if you remove the electrical plug from the switch and jump the plug, maybe the car will start? Good Luck!!!

I need to replace the neutral safety switch on a 1989 Jeep Comanche 5 speed manual transmission

I think you are referring to the clutch pedal safety switch. If so it is located behind the clutch pedal under the dash.

Where is the clutch switch located on a 1995 honda civic

There are two switches. The one you probably want is the starter/clutch interlock switch which is located at near the upper end of the clutch pedal. This switch engages your clutch. If engine wont turn over with clutch depressed and key to start, loosen the locknut and turn the cylinder clockwise to move the switch in closer to the clutch, try again. If problem persists, check ignition switch wiring for shorts/bad connections; there is no voltage from the starter relay to the switch, or no continuity between the two terminals on the switch, or the switch is bad. Hope this helps you out

Car won't start when I push in the clutch. I have full battery power. I am looking at the clutch safety switch. Need to know where the location is and if it is something I can replace as a novice car...

On cluch pedal arm under dash. Follow pedal arm up.
CAUTION if you override this switch the car will be able to move (jump) when you crank the starter.

1995 honda civic clutch

It is not a clutch slave cyl. or clutch master cyl. problem, first check battery and and cables to rule them out if good check to see with test lamp if you have power to start switch at pedal cluster, [key in crank position] If you have power then check with test lamp, [key in crank position and clutch in] for power at starter solonoid, if no power replace switch at clutch pedal if you have power to the starter then you have a bad starter.
