Inactive features We lost power for approx. 2 hours and apon getting power restored our features are showing inactive. We can not access any voicemail in our company. After a neighborhood power outage after electrical storm, all features on our Nortel phone are inactive. We have no voicemail and the manual does not address this. It only tells me to use a feature, but no features work. The display reads "Inactive Feature." We've looked at the wiring in the main board but everything is connected. Can you help? Thank you. Donna

My problem is very similar. I cannot access any voicemail services. In fact, I cannot transfer a phone all. I can receive calls but cannot transfer. Any thoughts or answers? I too have teh old Nortel Norstar-PLUS system with M7310 phones. It worked just fine until we had a power outage yesterday morning which lasted almost 3 hours. Its not worked since then.

We recently had a CallPilot 150 mini go bad on us it kept saying Inactive feature so we bought one to replace it same model and everything. When we plug in the new one and put our card in it from the old system now messages are able to be left in the inbox but they can't be retrieved. Any ideas why?

Is the phone system working but the voicemail did not come back up ? Can you tell me what kind of voicemail you have, ist should be marked on the voicemail system ?

  • Anonymous Aug 02, 2008

Hi, I'm glad that at least the phones work. The Voicemail is a seperate box and is usually installed next to the phone system. Your phone system will be a grey box labeled 0 X 32 or maybe 8 X 24 and the voicemail could be labeled Applications Module, they look almost the same. The phone system has a door that opens and the voicemail does not. What i'd like for you to do is to reset the voicemail by unplugging the power cord from the bottom of the voicemail equipment. there is no on/off switch on these units so just unplug, wait for 2 to 3 minutes and pulg it back in to see if the voicemail will restart. Give it a try, you can not hurt it any worse than it is now. Let me know ......Mike

I have a Nortel Norstar M73110 and I can't access the main greeting/main system control (Feature 983 stuff). Is there a way I can reset this password, or even hard reset the system?

Norstar M7310 features inactive
All features are inactive. I have done the following: 1. Press [Feature] **938378 (XFtest). The password will be 266344 (Config). 2. Your display will read Feat code: and you will have options First and Exit. 3. Press First. The first stored feature code will appear, and you will have options Test, Back, and Next. 4. Press Test. Your options will read Remove and OK. Press Remove. 5. Once the feature code is removed, press Next to go to the next code. 6. Do this with all codes until your display reads None Registered 7. Release Next I am told to Restore connections to the voicemail ports from the KSU. Power the system back up. But I do not know how to do this. Please advise. Thank you!

Inactive feature message displayed when we try to access any features on our M7310 phones. This occurred after a power outage.

Dear customer..here is the solution

Sometimes when you put a new (or alternate) voicemail system on a Norstar switch, The feature codes that accessed the old system stay in the KSU memory. If this is the case all of your feature codes will appear inactive even if the voicemail system is operating correctly.
To fix this issue you need to run an External Feature test (XFtest) to identify and remove the leftover codes from your KSU memory. You must have a programming set to access this menu (M7310, M7324, T7316).
Power down the Voicemail unit. Remove connection to voicemail ports from KSU.
6. Do this with all codes until your display reads None Registered
7. Release
Restore connections to the voicemail ports from the KSU. Power the system back up.
The feature codes will be restored to the correct defaults with the completion of the voicemail power-up cycle.

Unable to access voicemail feature inactive

This means the system can no longer communicate with the voice mail. You can try to locate the voice mail and power cycle the unit to resolve the issue, If you still get inactive feature after the reboot you will need to replace the vms.

Feature 981 is displayed as an inactive feature and not available

Try powering off the voicemail system and and then power it on again. I've had it happen many times that after a power failure they just don't boot up correctly.

Norstar Flash problem

Cycle the power on the voicemail system. If that does not work, you may have to replace the voicemail power supply, or send the voicemail system for repair.
Good Luck!

Voicemail

If the feature codes show as inactive, the phone system is not seeing the voicemail. Hopefully this has been fixed by now, but you may need to call in a Vendor.

Inactive features

Is this just voice mail or are other features not working. Voice mail is a separate part from the phone system so you could be having phone system trouble or voice mail trouble. Most Norstar system use a capacitor for memory backup and they typically do not fail. I have seen circumstances where rapid on/off cycles (that can happen when the power goes out in a storm etc..) cause the programming to become scrambled. You should put your phone system on a good surge protector or UPS battery backup. How about other programming? Did anything default? What is the time and date on the system?
