Noise / Cabinet Hits
• Level the machine
• Check sensor (refer to Tub Sensor Test).
• Check Strut and Strut Isolator for proper operation.
• Check for Diagnostic Code "10".
Unbalanced Load/Wet Clothes Troubleshooting
Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics
CAUTION: Do not perform continuity check directly on Displacement Sensor due to the potential for damaging the microprocessor chip in the sensor.
5. Press Hand Wash.
6. Pull tub to front left corner and push down so sensor collapses to before the #1 mark molded on slider. Display will show "UO" (Unbalance open).
NOTE: Moving the sensor midway between mark #1 and mark #2 represents normal operation.
Press Hand Wash or Delicates. Display will show "UC" (Unbalance Closed).
Pump Out Test
Enter Service Mode
To enter Service Mode press the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or until the control beeps. The motor speed will be displayed when started (motor not running display will be 00). The present state of the machine will not be changed. (i.e., the current cycle in progress will not be interrupted and only the display will change).
Exit Service Mode
Press Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for 3 seconds again, or press Off, or unplug the machine.
Board Output Test
While in Service Mode, pressing the Delicates key will begin the Board Output Test. This test turns on a specified output after a key press. (Pressing the Delicates key again cancels the test.) All outputs will be turned off after five (5) minutes. While in Service Mode press the Presoak key to check the Drain Pump.
Motor Control Test
While in Service Mode press the Whites key to check the Motor Control.

If these parts look ok....run the machine and watch the machine run.....it should give you an indication on what is happening. You will need to jump out the lid switch to do this.
Please post results
Here is your answer....you were right about the clutch.
Click on the link, this guy had the same issue. There are pictures at the bottom of the page.
You will need to register to view the pictures. or if you email mne I can forward them to you.

If you want to tackle this job let me know and i will send the service manual to you.
You must be mechanially inclined to do it. Not a job for a beginner. Just a heads up. Around $300.00 plus for a service tech to do it.

Good luck.

The tub displacement sensor is likely the problem. Enter the Service Mode by pressing the Help and Back keys for three seconds or until the control beeps. Press System Check on the display then push the tub to the back right corner so sensor extends beyond the #2 mark molded on the slider and the display will show"tub unbalance" . Pull the tub to the front left corner and push down so sensor collapses to before the #1 mark molded on the slider and display will show "tub unbalance". Moving the tub midway between marks #1 and #2 represents normal operation and the display will show "no unbalance".
The tub displacement sensor is indeed the problem if the "tub unbalance" is displayed even before the tub is moved to the back right and front left corners or when "tub unbalance" is displayed when the tub is moved even slightly towards the said corners. Check and make sure tub displacement sensor is in place at the front left corner of the cabinet if this is the case. Check the connection of the sensor to the machine control if the sensor properly in place. Make sure the wire harness is intact and the connectors are clean and snug fit. Replace the tub displacement sensor if the no issue is found with the wire harness. The tub displacement sensor is part number 12002194.
Disconnect power raise the top cover by inserting a plastic putty knife or
similar tool in line with the lid seam and push in to release the catches on
the left and right sides.
Once the top cover is raised, remove the 2 screws on the back side of the front panel then tip the panel forward and lift upward to clear the J clips from the bottom of the panel. Release the tub displacement sensor locking tab and slide sensor to release. Observe the wire routing before removing sensor as the wires must be routed through the wire clips and strain reliefs during reassembly.

The tub displacement sensor is indeed designed to stop the machine when an unbalanced condition is detected as when the tub hits the side walls. The pump works then to pump out more water. This is because water has been detected and needs to be drained out before a spin cycle is restarted after an unbalanced condition.
Based on the description of the problem, the issue is likely in the suspension system, particularly the front struts and the rear struts. Make sure the struts are intact and properly in place. Replace both struts if at least one strut is fond worn or damaged. Also check the ring around the top of the basket for sloshing water as water accumulation causes immediate imbalance of the basket when the machine goes into spin.
Bad clutch is not likely to cause an unbalance condition.

Applies to the UC unbalance code also.
I no longer post on this site no way to post a Sticky for machine issues.
If you want to DIY the repair Google this phrase ""Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW""" Read the post Part 1; DC or UC unbalance error codes in Spin Cycle what is causing this issue? Part 2 for the fix action.
Post your issue in the repair forum not in the Sticky. Please include your Model Number i.e. FAV6800A or FAV9800A and I will help you.

Thanks for your insight. i just want to understand how this sensor works. Is the sensor designed to stop the machine and tell it to pump out more water before it reattempts to go back into spin?
I just wanted to clarify what is going on with my washer. the washer will not go into a spin. Everytime it trys to go into spin the drum osolates out of control and hits the side walls. the machine has a digital display that indicates an error 10.(out of balance) The problem is not an unbalance load because we have tryed 10 times with a different sized/balanced load. When I run it through the diagnosis spin test. It will only go to 48 rpm before going into unbalance. I tested the drain pump and it works fine. I was able to get it it to spin properly once after many attempts??? The right lock switch arm that holds the lid down has been broken for some time now but the machine has been operating fine. Shouldn't the machine pump out the water before trying to spin the tub, it appears that it is not doing that?
it appears that the displacement switch is shutting the unit down but when i test for power back at the pump after an out of balance, there is none present. other postings say something about a bad clutch??
i check the suspension and it seems like both front springs and back suspension are fine. Also, what happens is at the 11 minute mark the machine trys to go into spin then goes into unbalance. From other posts it seems like this could be a problem with the clutch. How do I test the clutch?
2 front shocks appear to be good. When I press down on the tub at each shock and let go, the tub springs right back up. The back doesn't have shocks, they have suspended rods that hold the tub up, these seem fine also. When I open the lid and move the inner tub from side to side it is smooth and returns too the middle.
toploader. Do you have access to my previous correspondence with the last technician? I have provided a detailed discription of what is going on with this machine.
The two front shocks are fine and in the back there are two suspension cables that are also good. Could it be a problem with a stuck pressure switch thinking that all the water is out of the tub?
rear struts and brackets appear to be fine. Whenever the washer reachs the 11 minute mark it never advances into spin, any other suggestions?
It appears as if the clutch is hanging up. when the machine begins to go into spin it seems like it is also trying to agitate. I will remove and inspect the clutch.
Yes would you please forward the manual. Thank you for your help.
