I have an Acer AL261W. I have to turn it off and on with the switch on the back several times in order for the tv to respond to the remote or the buttons on the tv itself. It started of with having to do this occasionally, but now I have to do it all the time.

Hello,

Electrolyte capacitors on the powerboard are going bad and need to be replaced and the tv will work good as new.

Here is a picture that helps you spot the bad capacitors, they can bulge, leak or blow. in your case since it still starts up they are most likyl bulged like on this picture or possibly leaking under.

these need to be replaced with same UF rating and Voltage capacitors, they cost around 0.5$ or similar depending on how many you have to replace it may end up costing around 5$

note that you need a soldering iron and the old capacitors need to be unsoldered and then new ones put in place, you need to make sure they are put in the same way, make sure you match the negative to the negative or minus to minus.

the minus side will be marked with black in most cases.

note that the capacitors may hold charge even when unplugged, use a multimeter to check that they don't have any charge before replacing to avoid small electric shocks. The bigger capacitor if not discharged may hold up to 400Volts and could be deadly.

The AV button from my remote isn't working at all.I bought a new one but the catalog doesnt have Cosmo Communication TV brand.I would like to know what code I need to put so the AV can appear on the TV.

Read the manual that came with the remote. Most of the time you can find your device when you put the remote in a "search" mode and then you have to press a button several times, till the TV switches off. Then press anything again and your remote should be set up. Something like that should be on the remote for setup. When the TV responds, check all buttons, to see if any of the keys switches the AV.

Polaroid TLX-01511C LCD TV REMOTE WONT WORK

Change battery and see. Look for any jammed buttons on the remote and/or on the control panel of TV. If you have removed the plug, when the TV was in standby mode, sometimes the system controller could not have got time to reset. Try using the control panel buttons and see whether the TV responds. If not, switch it off manually, switch off power and remove plug and retry after 48 hours.

LG LCD TV won't respond to remote controllers

sparrow00, your fix worked for me, and I think I know why. The 1/8" remote input jack on the back of the TV has electrical contacts inside that are probably there to sense the presence of a plug-in remote. When they detect the insertion of this plug they disable the front panel IR (infrared) receiver and the TV only responds to this plugged-in remote and the buttons on the TV itself. After some period of time these contacts get corroded and the circuit is no longer completed between them. The TV now thinks an external remote is plugged in, and it ignores its own front panel IR receiver.

When you plug a 1/8" plug into this remote socket on the back of the TV it wipes away the corrosion. When you remove the plug the internal contacts conduct properly again and the TV responds to its front panel IR receiver. For best results you should plug a 1/8" headphone plug into this remote jack and twist it a few times, then pull it out and repeat several times. Repeat every frew months or whenever the TV acts up.
Thanks for your solution!

TV is not responding to the remote control.

The set may have defaulted to a front panel lockout. To defeat that on the front of the set hold down the MENU button for 15 seconds and see if it will then power up. I know that doesn't solve the problem with the remote but one step atta time. These sets are prone to leaky switches on the control panel and when that happens the micro cannot accept two different commands at the same time. That could be why the remote is not working.

Remote problems

Take the remote to your local Radio Shack and have it tested.. They used to carry IR cards and now have a pen-like tester that can tell if the remote is operating properly. Then, if you're sure the code is correct, you probably will have to have the IR detector in the Tv replaced...

TV remote will not work properly

I have a Mitsubishi WD-52725 TV, too, and have experienced the same problems with it. My solution to the remote not responding is to push the reset button on the front of the TV (to the left of the Power button) with a paper clip and wait for the green light to stop blinking (about 1 minute). Then, turn it back on and try the remote again. Recently, my remote stopped responding when pushing certain buttons on it. I removed the batteries, and all of the little screws including the one inside the battery compartment and gently cleaned the contacts inside the remote and the circuit board with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. After putting it back together, it works fine now.
