Our Gaggia Synchrony Digital leaks somewhere at the back over the edge of the drip tray. The drip tray fills up and some runs out underneath the machine. It seems worse when we use the steam wand. We installed a new brew group and boiler valve with gasket, but the machine still leaks.

SOURCE: water leaking from steam wand when brewing shots

Try this from another post. It should help.

The steam wand began to seriously leak but a call to Starbucks Customer Service line and I was talked through how to adjust it so that the leaking stopped. It requires taking off the top/back panel of the machine (6 philips screws) then using a small allen key (1.5 mm I believe) to loosen and adjust a plastic oblong donut-shaped thing (a "cam" actually) on the shaft of the steam knob... no more drips.
The key to prevent dripping is to open the steam knob without putting pressure on it when it gets to the full-open stop position. Cranking it too hard when it comes to a stop in the full-open position will slowly move the cam out of position. Then the shaft doesn't fully seat inside the machine anymore and won't fully shut off the water to the steam wand. Then, no matter how hard you crank the knob in the shut-off position it will still drip. The purpose of the cam is to stop the knob from complete unscrewing and it also turns the pump on and off for the steam wand. The cam adjustment is very small but completely solves the dripping problem. Seeing inside the machine made me realize how easy it would be to repair problems as long as I can get the parts from Starbucks or perhaps Saeco.

SOURCE: Descaling

No, it does not quite clean both boilers, even though they are connected, you will have to use the preground chute if your machine has one, if not then grind and brew method will work. The reason, you want to get some of the cleaner through the white plastic valve behind the brewunit and the fitting that connects it to the boiler.

SOURCE: When I turn on the brew switch the steam wand

Your machine propably got a small mineral deposit which has lodged in the steam valve blocking it to close tight. This can move out by making descaling some times repeativly. However this can happent only by 30 % if you are lucky.
If not then machine need to be desasemble and removing the valve and clean it with a wire brush. Unfortunatly this is the only way if the 4-5 times of descaling fail to move the mineral deposit.
Hope you are from the lucky ones, thank you for your positive voting

Unit is leaking water on the left side and after we fill up the water container. We are placing it in the proper position but it leaks constantly. It there a service fix for such a situation? ...

Hi
If its leaking under the water tank, its this.
There is a seal on top of the machine under the water tank. To get to it, remove the water tank, and set aside. There is a large doughnut shaped cap on top of the machine. Slip a screwdriver on the outside edge of the cap and pry up gently. When it snaps up, go to the other side of the cap and do the same. There is a black seal in the center and if you stick your finger in the center and it lifts out, it needs to be replaced. Clean any residue inside the opening with a Q-tip.
When you get the new seal, it won't slip in. Insert it at a slight angle (double lips down), then take your finger nail and run it around the bottom edge of the seal until it slips in, then push down. Snap the cap back on and your set to go.
If its leaking under the machine, its your boiler.
If its leaking into the dredge drawer, its the thiumbscrew in the brew unit, that holds the filter screen in.
If its under your drip tray there is a pocket behind the brew unit that has a cloged drain, just above the center of the drip tray in back.

My Gaggia Synchrony is leaking - If I remove the water catch basis, I can see a drip. We have used this machine every day for years - can the problem be fixed easily?

HI
There is a panel behind the brew unit, that has 2 screws. Remove it and clean the coffee residue behind it. That is what drains the pressure relieved after brewing, and has coffee residue that can build up and cause the leak. It should leak into the drip tray though, except when you rremove it.

Who do you decalcify your synchrony espresso

I assume yours is not the digital, here are some instructions for properly descaling your machine.
1. To decalcify your boiler, remove your water tank and fill it with hot water (100 to 120 degrees). Open a pack of decalcifier and mix into the water tank. Once it is dissolved, place the tank back on the machine, and then turn the machine on.
2. If you just open the steam knob and run approximately eight ounces of solution into a spare container. Turn the machine off and let set about 10 to 15 minutes. Longer is better. It is very important that the machine does not remain on to heat the boiler anymore than necessary.
3. Repeat step #2 for your machine. Do this until you have consumed the entire water tank of solution (approximately four to five cycles). (I do it at night before I go to bed and let the last cycle set in the boiler till morning.)
4. Remove water tank and rinse it with fresh water.
5. Refill water tank with fresh water and place it back on the machine.
Repeat step #2 to rinse the machine, only this time use the entire water tank at one time, and there is no need to let it set.
Remember, it is better to descale more often than not enough.
