Please don't call me dear - it was one wild night of passion, nothing more.
As I explained when we were using the camcorder on that very night, to format the disc in the camcorder, you use settings in the menu system - as to which ones, my memory is a little hazy, thanks to the wine.

SOURCE: Hitachi dvd cam dz-mv730a disk won't finalize

Hi, I know this is a big problem with these kind of camcorders. May I suggest downloading the program at the following link and trying to fix this problem with it. Please let me know how this goes and if it doesn't work let me know as I would be glad to keep trying to get this fixed.

SOURCE: hitachi DVD mv730 cannot read disk

I am overall satisfied with my cam. I must add that i have the Hitachi MV730E model, I think it is the same with Hitachi MV730A model (not sure why the E at the end of the description versus the A, might be a country specific thing since I bought it in Europe).
The reason I am writing this review is to help all those like me that have problems with corrupted disks. It does not happen often (5 times out of the approx 100 disks i have shot), yet, sometimes before or during finalisation i get the message "Cannot read disk. Check dirt/crack/both-sides contrary/inserted correctly." and the camcorder cannot read the disk. Since it is not finalised, i cannot use it in my DVD player. For some disks that include some precious, unique moments that was a major disappointtment.
Searching for a solution, I found a program at www.cdroller.com. I was not sure it would work, I was a bit suspicious, still, I gave it a shot, bought it for 39 Euros (approx 50 USD) and it worked. I have already recovered 3 out of 3 I have tried, if the disk is seriously corrupted it takes lots of time but, regardless of the fuss, i have my videos back.
With cdroller program, you should note that a)for me, the best option is "Split file" after "Recover everything" which creates mpeg files, and, b)when disk seriously corrupted, and program asks "Disc scan seems to require some time to complete. Display intermediate results right now?", i chose once yes and the quality of the recovered files was not good, therefore, next time i chose no and ticked "Don't show this message again" and then the quality of the recovered files was good.
Hope it helps.

I can't format the DVD/RAM

You DON'T format DVD disks, period. nor do you format RAM.

DVD's, CD's, etc are written with burning programs that format them AS they are written.

Can't read dvd ram disk

Well not all DVD Rom's are compatible for DVD Ram. Other problem would be the formatting. Windows XP Home and Professional can only write directly to FAT32-formatted DVD-RAM discs. For UDF-formatted discs, which are considered faster, compatible device drivers or software such as InCD or DLA are required. Windows Vista can natively access and write to both FAT32 and UDF-formatted DVD-RAM discs, however Windows Vista uses its own version of the UDF format giving compatibility problems. Vista also has issues with XP formatted FAT32 discs as Vista uses the CPRM features. Even though it is possible to use any file system one likes, only very few perform well on DVD-RAM. This is because some file systems frequently over-write data on the disc and the table of contents is contained at the start of the disc.

My new DVD player will play all CDs except the ones I burned on my laptop. Why is this and how can I get the DVD player to play those CDs? when I record a dvd on my lap top it will allow me to play it...

Hi,
it,s one of 2 things.
1:) your recording MP3 to CD. Only recognised on a PC, or MP3 Player. The standard CD Format Is WAV.
If you burn with Nero. you should have a tickbox Which Says ( Normalise all audio Files )
2:) the disk is not finalised. Closed having written the T.O.C Table-Of Contents. this is to allow the reader viewing it, what is actually written on the disk.
