Frigidaire Gallery Model FRS26ZSHB3 The refrigeration stops and may or may not start again allowing the refrigerator to defrost. If the temperature control is turned off and then back on the refrigerator starts and cools properly but may or may not start again unless the temperature control is again turned off and then on again.

    Hi Shane,

The vents are clear. Nothing in the freezer and not much in the fridge as it all thawed while I was away for a few days.

The coil is dusty but not real dirty and definately not blocked.

This is not the defrost cycle. The compressor just doesn't start again (sometimes).

The refrigerator worked properly for several years in the same location before this happened.

    Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Bill

Hi,
There are two things that could be happning....

1. The control is bad and when you manually turn it it will close and start the unit, but it will not close after it opens to stop the unit on it's own....
In other words... you touching it and moving it will get it to work, but it will not turn the unit on if there is no outside influence on it....

The possibility is that the compressor will not restart when warm...but once it cools down it will restart....
I don't think this is what is happening though... my bet is with the thermostat/control...

That is not that hard to fix and you can easily buy the parts yourself online...

Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

    Hi Bill,

I see that you are a bit frustrated...

As I stated in my solution I believe that you have a thermostat/control issue...

Thought a bout it since I wrote that....just to narrow it down somemore...instaed of turning the control...just give it a wack somewhere near it... if the unit starts then you know it is the control...

Most of these are not that hard to replace and I also included a tip about how to buy the part yourself online...

I hope you area ble to figure this out and get your unit working...

Please comment back to me if you have more questions...

Hello gaoler... If there is power to the appliance but it still seems to be stopped, there may be a problem in one or more of these: Wiring Thermostat Defrost timer Compressor Overload and/or relay Unfortunately, we can't describe all of the possible problems and repair solutions here. If you are unable to troubleshoot the problem from here, you may need to contact a qualified appliance repair technician. That said, if this fridge is more than 3 years old, rather than repair it seriously consider a replacement. The new ones literally pay for themselves with the savings in power consumption alone within their warranty period. Joe Thanks for choosing Fixya!

Hi,
You need to check the following to make sure your refrigerator is working properly:
Vent blockage - Air flows between the freezer and refrigerator sections to provide proper cooling via air vents.
Condenser coil - When the condenser coil is dirty it causes the sealed system to overheat and therefore the refrigerator will not cool properly.
Defrost Cycle - When the refrigerator goes into defrost, the cooling mode stops and a defrost heater energizes to remove accumulated frost from the evaporator (cooling) coil, which causes the freezer temperature to rise slightly.
Proper Air Circulation - Refrigerators require a specific amount of clearance around the cabinet to allow for air circulation. If the refrigerator does not have the minimum clearance required, the refrigerator cannot cool properly.
Hope this helps.
Shane

Frigidaire Gallery Warm Refrigerator Cold Freezer

Generally the thermostat that turns on and off the compressor is in the freezer and so is the coils. The control knob that is in the refrigerator section is just to adjust the air flow between the two sections. If the air flow is blocked you don't get cooling in the refrigerator section. This could be a bad fan motor not creating circulation, ice blockage because the defrost cycle is not melting away ice accumulation. If it's defrost problems it could be timer, defrost thermostat, or heater element.

might be your compressor relay gone bad. if the condenser fan was running and no compressor that could be the case. Also could be a bad compressor. you could try installing a 3in1 start kit. cost about $30. if doesn't start with that then compressor is kaput.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery model plhs267za. The refrigator doesn't freeze or emits cold air. When I turne it off for a coule of days it works again. The technician says compressor is ok as weel as fan...

Freezer coil is plugging up with frost, Your problem is defrost timer or heater related. If it is the timer you can located the timer and rotate the Clutch screw for the timer, turn it very slowly Clockwise until you hear one click. The compressor will shut off and the defrost heaters will turn on. Waite about 25-30 minutes and if the refrigerator does not restart (Normal time would be 18-22 minutes) rotate the screw again clockwise small amount and it will start cooling. Observe the drain pan for defrost water. If the refrigerator restarted (18-22 minutes) and no water is in the drain pan you problem is defrost heaters. If after the 25-30 minutes the refrigerator did not restart on its own and water is in the drain pan your problem is the defrost timer.

The Frigidaire Gallery freezer has ice build up restricting air flow

#1. DEFROST TIMER stuck or defective. Not allowing DEFROST CYCLE to occur. Most probable.
#2. THERMOSTAT (cold control) has gone bad.
#3. CIRCULATING FAN. It pulls air from the FREEZER side into the REFRIGERATED side.
#4. and lowest in probability. LOW (leaking) coolant charge.
