How do you light your pilot light on an kenmore oven

To light the pilot light on a Kenmore Maxitrol oven, please follow these steps:
  1. Locate the pilot light assembly. It's usually at the bottom of the oven, behind a small metal cover.
  2. Turn the oven control knob to the "off" position.
  3. Remove the metal cover by pulling it out or lifting it up, depending on the model.
  4. Locate the pilot light and the pilot light valve. The valve is usually a small red button located near the pilot light.
  5. Press and hold the pilot light valve in for a few seconds while you use a long match or lighter to light the pilot light.
  6. Once the pilot light is lit, continue holding the pilot light valve in for another 30 seconds.
  7. Release the pilot light valve and make sure the pilot light stays lit. If it doesn't, repeat the process.
  8. Replace the metal cover and turn the oven control knob to the desired temperature setting.
Note: If you're having trouble lighting the pilot light or keeping it lit, it may be best

How to light my pilot light on a 1970 gas oven?

A faint gas odor near an appliance may indicate that the pilot light has gone out. If the appliance has a pilot light and the odor persists after relighting, exit immediately, leaving doors and windows open as you exit. Do not open windows if they're not already open. Do not use your telephone or cell phone, operate any appliance, light a match or turn light switches on or off. Call your local gas supplier from a neighboring location.

When i turn on oven all i smell is gas i cleaned with a wire brush still nothing. also is the pilot light always have to be on and can you see it when oven is off

Most gas ovens that aren't electronic ignition usually have a pilot light.
Usually one in the oven area and one for each burner. (Sometimes shared between two burners.)
These pilot lights must lit at all times...otherwise it won't light up and you'll smell gas.
Usually the pilot light is in the very back of the oven and can be seen with the broiler drawer opened.

There is a small set screw located at the pilot light assembly in the oven and also at every burner.
This allows you to adjust pilot light up or down, thereby letting you set pilot light flame to a level that doesn't get blown out by a draft...or you can turn it off completely.

If you use that set screw to turn off the pilot light gas, you'd need to strike a match to light the oven or burners everytime you needed them.

Oven is very sporaditic, will heat up get to temp , go to load mode then shut off. Sometime after an hour or two sometime after 15 minutes

Your pilot light is probably blowing out. If you follow the pilot light gas line from the pilot flame back to the main valve, you will see a screw about the size of a pencil in diameter. If you take that screw out, there is another screw down in the hole you just uncovered. You have to have a very small screwdriver to reach that screw. If you turn the little screw counterclockwise, the pilot light flame will get bigger. A lot of times this will help. If you have a drafty location, the pilot will get blown out and that shuts the main gas valve off.

Magic Chef range the pilot on the oven will not light.

Is this a manual lighting pilot,do you light it?

If so you may have a bad gas valve.

If this is an auto light pilot it could be the electronic spark is bad.Im guessing the popping noise is the autospark trying to light.

Where is the pilotlight on a ge xl44 gas stove I belive it is in the door under the oven well I turned the gas on and stuck a flame down there and nothen took off is there a certian place to put the flame....

In general lets be clear. The OVEN pilot is located under the oven door at the top of the Broiler. It is a small piece of metal just before the GAS safety Valve which acts on temperature so gas won't flow unless Pilot is lit,That's the OVEN PILOT.The stove's RANGE is the top burners where you heat Pots and Pans.It has either 2 Pilot lights that connect the burners to the Flame they are under the Range Top.Newer Models use electronic ignitions no flame. Please note if you had your stove/oven disconected or Gas off when you turn it back on there will be air in the line that needs to escape before you light. This is why in NYC when Utility Co.works on steet main the MUST re-light your appliances.Be Careful with Gas.Good Luck.

Lang gas oven

The thermostat may be faulty for that section of the oven, it checks to make sure there is a pilot flame via a thermostat that turns the gas on. The thermostat that turns the gas on is usually located next to the pilot light.
